What advice would you give a 15 year old boy?

I think one thing we overlooked here is that the mom is pretty awesome, so if he does come out and starts to get bullied I'm sure she will have something to say about it.

True! She is being very supportive. She's the kind of person who is very proactive and I think she thinks that if they "get organised" and prepare themselves well enough then her son won't face any difficulties. She's right in that this support will make things easier but there is only so much she can do, he will have to figure out and deal with a lot of things himself - gay or straight! I guess she's just in major protective mode and the moment. I'm sure long term the boy will be fine, but I'm pretty sure if he comes out to his entire school then the short term is going to be difficult.
