it's hard to have respect for nameless and faceless entities with no identity to them.

in real life you take one look at a person and know more or less who they are right there. you'll know whether you like them or not, you'll know how to react to them. on the internet, you don't know anything about them at all even if you've talked to them for months.

i truly detest online communication. this forum here is the only place where i interact with strangers blind in such manner. i couldn't do it when actually trying to meet someone. i need real life impressions first and foremost.

I was about to say I like forums, but it's actually only this one that I like. I use many others for information, but only this one for the good company. I find most posters on other forums inconsiderate and arrogant.

I like communicating with strangers online, but I want it to be friendly and inclusive.

Like the others, I tend to forget about posts if they don't stay in the top10 or thank/@/quote me.

Yeah it's annoying but I try to let it go just in case they've been hit by a lorry.
I don't want to run the risk of being angry at a dead guy.

I don't have much to say about this forum personally considering I haven't been here/participated here very long. In general though, I do tend to dislike a lot of online communities. I usually end up being the odd one out and become ignored/people move on. It tends to feel like people are all in on some big clique and I just don't have what it takes (whatever that is) to make it into the "in" crowd.

Overall though I try not to let it bother me too much. I try and give people the benefit of the doubt and think they didn't intentionally ignore/forget about me. Unless I know for a fact they are doing it on purpose. Then I get out my voodoo doll and pins...(not exactly but if I was crazy like that I would).

It's a blessing in disguise...
It makes it soooo much easier to single out quality people.

Thank you all for your responses. I guess I was just raised differently than some people. In real life I would not ask somebody a question and then just walk away. Of course text messaging has delays, but I would still know that I had been involved in the conversation. Quoting or tagging someone is definitely a good option. However, when I ain't going to a forum I know the conversations i've bern involved with.

Never forget that real life takes priority.

Honestly? I do it a fair bit myself, when the person I'm debating/arguing with is either repeating themselves, or are just getting plain old nasty. Keeps me sane.

Giving a whole "this discussion is over" speech would just come off as arrogant and set off the other persons gloat mode.

I try to reply to all casual posts, unless I'm at a complete loss as to what to say, or as the case is here, not really a regular anymore.
