I think about this a lot..how we come to conclusions that result in negative and positive impressions..and the path we all take to get there which is so unique...
So..My question...based on everything...what five countries do you have the most positive impression of?
...and what one country do you have the most negative impression of? (you can list more than one if you like)
My positive impressions:
Japan
Canada
Argentina
Ireland
Portugal
New Zealand
Slovenia
(my top five (or seven LOL) can change as I sift through new information and get new impressions)
My negative impressions:
Uganda
India
Guatemala
Russia
Jamaica
(these can change as well..new information does have an impact)
Yours?

Deservedly so. It would suck to be born as a LGBT person in either one of those countries and on top of that, India is probably one of the most unsafe places in the world for women....it's unfortunate that FIFA is allowing Russia to host the next World Cup.

I'm not sure it helps just to make a list that will seem random. Could you maybe explain some of the particular points that give you those impressions?
For instance, some people have listed Switzerland, and while this country may seem like a pleasant place to live, maybe many of you don't realise how parochial it is, and I might add quite selfish. This does not mean there is nothing wrong with its French neighbour, which there is. Would I throw Switzerland out with the bathwater like the proverbial baby? Probably not, but there are aspects of the country that I would not like to keep. And yet, to give it credit, I think both Zurich and Geneva top the list of best places to live in the world.
Again, I think it might help to know what criteria is used to measure that.

Positive (places I'd live to visit or live in)
USA if you stop believing it's a great place just ask recent immigrants. Ignore the media and meet the people.
Australia hasn't shown up on any lists so far. Amazing place.
Gibraltar I had 4 days there in 2008. Amazing. Jews, Christians and Muslims all get along as friends.
Solomon Islands
Japan the friendliest, most helpful and polite people anywhere.
The Conch Republic It needs no explanation.
Norway
Canada
Ireland
Kenya
Guam
Negative
Russia
China
North Korea
Iran
Saudi Arabia
Afganistan
Pakistan
Uganda
Congo
