I've done horseback riding on tribal lands with a guide, yes, but not at Canyon de Chelly. The pictures look amazing. I thought of it for you because it's an intersection of two of your interests. Riding on tribal lands is a lot more fun than doing tourist rides on private or public lands due to liability concerns. On tribal lands you can canter and gallop through the fields. Your average trail ride outside of tribal lands would be plodding along and never even breaking into a trot.

If you're at UNM they do have an equestrian center.

You can get to Santa Fe by train. From Santa Fe you can get the Blue Bus to Taos.

You just need to make friends with someone who has a car and shares your sense of adventure! At the very least you need to get a bicycle to get around Albuquerque.

One more thing, the border towns in Mexico used to be a place that a lot of people would visit, but pretty much no one does it anymore due to safety concerns. So I recommend you stay in the US and not go south to Juarez. It's considered too dangerous.

That is a really good thing to know, thank you! It never really bothered me that trail rides are normally pretty slow, because I know I'll love it anyway, but your idea does sound like more fun, I'll definitely check that out! Smile

I didn't know about an equestrian center at UNM though? I just found a riding school in the city and started going there but I have no idea if they're in any way working with UNM.
