Try to calm down. That was one hell of a rant. (You're nearly as bad as me.) If you are not careful you will end up posting the truth that dare not speak its name - that gay men are natural Tories.

Lol I was and remain calm.

As for Conservative leanings, well probably. If anything, I'm more right than left, without the racism or the Christianity.

No doubt the latter makes me all the worse in the eyes of the general Left, but ykno, I can live with that. =]

"Where one man can open a hotel door, then three men should not be employed to do just that. When a man kills a man because of that most awful beast of jealousy, then that man should also die. There is logic left in this world, and let us, the right thinking people, protect the most basic principle which we know: Where there is evil, let us destroy it! Where there is stupidity, let us be clever! We see before us an horrendous stupidity which threatens all that we know. Let us not sacrifice all that we have, and all that our ancestors have fought for. Let us rise up together, and show the world that we, the people, the citizens of this great country, are strong, we are sure, and we will defend ourselves and our country in the face of any threat they make!"

On a less dramatic note, O2 suck at sorting out problems, try contacting the regulators. =)

Here in Britain they use cutthroat buisness practices to expand their coffe shops. They take over empty properties and when the council fines them they just pay the fine instead of applying for planning permission like everyone else. I could go on the list is endless. No wonder my last starbucks tasted so bitter!

Meh. With Asda being a part of Wal-Mart and TWO of our high-street bakns now a part of the Santander group and Tesco becoming a monster of its own it might JUST be time to accept that massi chains have the edge in a free market due to their massive resources. Tis the way tis. Doesn't mean the coffee isn't good. Which is what counts.

OH, and let's not forget that the government of Palestine is an internationally recognised TERRRORIST ORGANISATION, whose self-sonfessed mission is the destruction of every single living jew on the planet. Death to the infidel, indeed...

Of course. None of us is a racist, except in the eyes of others Rolleyes

I feel like I should be able to place the quote, but I can't. Who said it, Woolfe? So many assertions there  Funny, I'm sure I knew all the answers thirty years ago. It's amazing what one forgets with age Wink

Seriously, we've had to learn to be independent and self supporting. Existing businesses did not meet our needs so we set up our own. We believe that we know best what is good for us not the State. We know importance of individual liberty above the beliefs and prejudices of Society. Anyone who has been gay-bashed (or feared they might be) knows the need for effective policing.

"Effective policing" being the kind of war waged on the people under the last Tory regime? It still makes me sick and angry to remember attending peaceful rallies and to find myself on the receiving end of "effective policing" that seemed to be aimed at provoking a kind of retaliation that would justify them charging into crowds of older people, families and children  They did it because they could, not because they needed to.

I may not be a fan of the present government, specially the massive and increasing centralisation and continuing erosion of rights and liberties, but they have put some important changes in place in our favour.

While I may agree with your analysis of a gay economy that may in parts have been driven by entrepreneurial expedience and was encouraged to flourish in a free market (and feel bound to bow to your greater knowledge of these matters) I'm not sure I have to accept the whole package without question.

Effective policing means making the streets safe to walk at night (including with your boyfriend). It does not mean police goading and brutality, something that has been found under governments of all colours around the world.

If you are referring to Civil Partnerships, then I agree and I don't for a moment claim to think that they would have actually happened under a Tory government.

I doubt I have greater knowledge in such matters. My point is that without such conditions that make starting a business relatively easy we would not have had gay bars, villages, etc. We would have had to make do with 'mainstream providers', we certainly wouldn't have had a variety of gay bars.

marshlander Wrote:I'm not sure I have to accept the whole package without question.

Are you referring to free market economics or being a Tory? Nothing should be accepted without question. I admit that the wing of the Tory party to which I suggest gay men may naturally belong is a very modern one (that is modern with respect to the long history of the Tory party not as in comparable to Mr Cameron) whose roots reach no further than the death of the Liberal Party.

I trust that includes that pretty much everything I post should be taken with at least a generous pinch of salt.
