Swine influenza

CardShark Wrote:I dont see why they couldn't stop everyone coming in the UK or leaving mexico untill they are tested!

Because they might very well become infected between being tested and being cleared to travel to the UK.

marshlander Wrote:Maybe, but unlikely. Imposition of such a ban would probably cause far more chaos than the illness, specially in the short term. I am aware that people have lost loved ones during this outbreak, but we are nowhere near a situation yet for the authorities to be able to justify such measures.

The aim is to prevent the bug even entering the UK.

Quite frankly fuck the people that dont want to be late, its better late than killing a few hundred people!

I'm sure they have enough equipment to stop people becoming infected between then, and then can easily distribute the equipment in a few hours.

Lets be honest, I don't want the flue neither does 99% of the population, whats the harm in delaying people?
Even for a blood sample, name and to giv'em a mask?

Cardy,

If this is next flu pandemic then it will enter Britain no matter what the Government does, we are too large an island to simply ban all travel.

I'm not suggesting ban it I'm suggesting check everyone.
Comon, we have to be checked for everything under the sun alreay what harm is it to check for the flu for a temporary amount of time?

I'm really struggling to get my head round how one might implement such a proposal. Who is going to do this testing? The virus takes twelve hours to produce a testable culture. When was the last time you were checked for everything under the sun? I usually get about five minutes with my GP once every two years.

I'm just generally refering to airport security bollocks, like 3 fuckin hours in line for a quick scan.

But are we not able to take quick blood samples & names from people coming in from say mexico.
Then you have that 12 hour window without bothering someone you could also give them a mask and say you must wear this or we will arrest you and hold you in jail for more than 12 hours Roflmao.
But when their is a good amount of blood samples with names you can find a significant amount of people with the flu and cure them asap.
Then your cutting down chances of infections by grabbing them.

com'on we've seen large amounts of blood tests/spit tests taken before especially in high profile murder cases or rape cases!

Surely its not impossible to implement this at a airport security check?
Please spit into this bottle and write your name here, thanks you may now be on your way?

Gotta give you credit for trying, Card Wink, but I still can't see it, even though I do use airports at least twice a month.

I can't help thinking it would actually be a lot safer to keep the queues to a minimum and get them moving more quickly than to encourage huge crowds of irritable people to gather in airport security areas for even longer than usual. If you test at airports you'll create wonderful breeding grounds for the spread of illness (and that's without even going into how you process the samples and contact those you've tested .. come on, the Home Office don't know who's here anyway!). Once you've kept them at airports for hours you can put them into flying metal boxes for hours so they can really share the air.

Cardy,

Do you really believe that people would actually wear these masks when they were out in public (which is when you need them to)?

Do we have the lab capacity to test the number of samples to which you are referring?

This is what pisses me off about public transport!!
they tell us to use them but then as a serious illness hits we're screwed.

Spit in a bottle wont take long, and even if they do it every 2nd person it still gives us a good chance of catching some of the people that are ill!

I would Roflmao.

We now havce one infant death in the USA...

From another site:

Quote:I'm mexican and everyone is so freaked out here where I live, I just feel they are blowing it our of proportions. They just shut down every single school for 10 days, advice people not to leave their houses, where masks ad look for symptoms. I understand that it can be easily catch but I don't know , it wasn't that bad when it was bird flu, or something like that. I feel like the media needs to get a hold of themselves. Now , I don't know what I'll do with 10 days off school... sleep?

Quote:Some authorities object to calling the flu outbreak "swine flu". US Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack expressed concerns that this would lead to the misconception that pork is unsafe for consumption. Israeli deputy health minister Yakov Litzman proposed the name "Mexican flu" because Muslims and Jews consider pork to be unclean, but the Israeli government retracted this proposal after Mexican complaints. The World Organisation for Animal Health has proposed the name "North American influenza", while the European Commission uses "novel flu virus". Medical terminology refers to the virus as "Influenza A (H1N1) virus, human." None of these alternative names, however, has gained widespread popular usage.

Let me count its syllables:1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9!? OMG! It's almost as long as my cock!

Swine flu is better. Only 2?!

There is soooo much info out there on this thing already... so much false info...

Over here they have discussed checking everyone who enters the country by air... There are a few countries who are using scans of human temp... the problem there is that if you just had a coffee or hot cocoa your body will show a higher temp than normal... also if you have a temp and have taken a fever reducer then you will show up as normal temp.

There is a big worry over here already about anyone with a simple cold swamping the doctors offices... If every person who was sick from a simple cold went to the docs office to get tested for this AH1N1 flu the labs would be totally overwhelmed. There is not enough funding for all the testing of folk who feel ill now. Imagine the costs of testing every passenger in an airport or border crossing... and where would the funding come from to find those who do show AH1N1? Then when you find that person you have to test every human he has been in contact with... Talk about economic stimulus package Rolleyes
