I've been all over Europe and we have tomatoes everywhere, including Scandinavia, for example. I'm not that fluent on regional dishes, but I know the Dutch grow great tomatoes. I think it's a personal taste thing. Though I don't get it what's wrong with the tomatoes, even texture-wise. They're so neutral, there's nothing to gross you out about them (unlike fried onions, for example).
