I suppose you didn't live through the 20th Century. I clearly recall similar and far worse attitudes amongs all sort of religious groups, like Athiests, Agnostics, then of course accepted religions like Catholocism, Protestants, etc.

The only thing here is that the Mormons are still changing their attitudes slowly.

As are most of the big, old "traditional" churches who have to go slowly after decades, centuries, thousands of years of "traditional" teaching that LGBT are sinners and going to burn in hell.

THese churches rely on the fact that they can't be wrong because that would be seen as God is Wrong.. we can'thave that, not if these churches are going to be still profits, erm I think I meant prophets... nah I lied.

Like it or not its going to be decades before mainstream religious organizations accept LGBT as 'normal' and god-fearing.

Just because they are slower to it than the agnostics and athiests and SOME pagans doesn't mean they are on the wrong path.

Oh wait... I was called a faggot by a self proclaimed athiest just last week... and that is BEFORE he knew I was gay.

I guess we need to ban athiests since they can't seem to put their bias and bigotry behind them and move on...

At least the mormons are trying to resolve their issues.

As far as the Catholic Church in Latin America goes, that is so not true.

Interestingly enough, that was a direct quotation I gave from a Catholic nun in the USA from the Sisters of St Joseph.

So Josh, you are sublimating your sexuality in the form of good works until the church gets around to saying that what you are is legitimate. Phooey!

If you are religious you must NEVER confuse the church with God. Remember ALWAYS that God speaks and the church serves what God says. Be sure you listen intently to the right one of the two.

Gemini:

The shorter version in red appears in a cantata by Benjamin Britten. A longer version is below.

For I will consider my Cat Jeoffry.
For he is the servant of the Living God duly and daily serving him.
For at the first glance of the glory of God in the East he worships in his Way.
For this is done by wreathing his boFdy seven times round with elegant quickness.
For he knows that God is his Saviour.
For there is nothing sweeter than his peace when at rest.
For God has blessed him in the variety of his movements.
For I will consider my cat Jeoffry in whom I take occasion to bless Almighty God.

"For I will consider my Cat Jeoffry.
For he is the servant of the Living God duly and daily serving him.
For at the first glance of the glory of God in the East he worships in his Way.
For this is done by wreathing his body seven times round with elegant quickness.
For then he leaps up to catch the musk, which is the blessing of God upon his prayer
...
For when his day's work is done his business more properly begins.
For he keeps the Lord's watch in the night against the adversary.
For he counteracts the Devil, who is death, by brisking about the life
...
For he is the cleanest in the use of his forepaws of any quadruped.
For the dexterity of his defence is an instance of the love of God to him exceedingly.
For he is the quickest to his mark of any creature.
For he is tenacious of his point.
For he is a mixture of gravity and waggery.
For he knows that God is his Saviour.
For there is nothing sweeter than his peace when at rest.
For there is nothing brisker than his life when in motion
...
For God has blessed him in the variety of his movements.
For, tho he cannot fly, he is an excellent clamberer.
For his motions upon the face of the earth are more than any other quadrupede.
For he can tread to all the measures upon the musick
For he can swim for life.
For he can creep."

those who chose religion must follow the scripture.

Or make a rational choice.

LJay - Thank you, that's wonderful!

I was recently adopted by a cat, my first ever experience of the feline species. She's fascinating!

I was specific in giving a location. I don't know how things work for the Catholic craziness in gringo lands.

Nuns are part of the powerless mob. They don't make the rules governing the Church or its attitudes and policies, I'm afraid.

Yes, I think nuns are powerless about the rules, policies, dogma, etc. In all the Americas and beyond.

What so great about her statement, that a church serves the people and not vice versa, is that it empowers the people to assess if the church is doing its job or not. In my case, I determined it was not, and I was therefore free to look elsewhere, with no guilt, uncertainty, or regret.

Many people of faith are like her. It frightens me that her voice is not heard. Cardinals, the pope, those are in command and they are not like her
