How about they outlaw the sale of tobacco instead of punishing smokers? No I don't like the smell, it is repulsive and yes being an ex smoker I kept right on despite the stink. These half ass politicians want to talk about how it is some kind of victory that they increased the taxes and made it illegal to smoke somewhere... How about just shut down the tobacco industry?

That would probably provoke riots and most certainly increase smuggling and contraband sales.

Riots, I think something like 10% of American smoke? (and they all live here -_- )

Smuggling and illicit sales is the same sort of thing that goes on with pot...

I don't see how making cigarettes more expensive really helps. It really just becomes a tax on the poor. I mean you and I both know that when it comes to smokers it is usually lower income people who smoke...

As an avid non-smoker they could put the price up 100% for all I care. I don't beleive that it is only the poor who smoke, it is more likely to be the poorly educated who are not necessarily financially poor..

Of course it isn't exclusively poor people and it is pretty much general knowledge that smoking isn't good for your health, to what degree people know how bad it is or what it does. It is highly addictive and very very difficult for people to quit, some people can and do quit, but many others don't quit until they die.
