There's a lot you can do with a Master's...for instance, if I wanted to teach, say a computer course...even if it is amounting to telling people where the power button is on their computer I have to have a Master's in a related field. So I do think think you're probably in a better position having a Master's over a BS in the same field....

Thanks InbetweenDreams originally I was pursuing a doctorate, but found school to be a chore at the end and was quite miserable. I always enjoyed working with data and math, any job with that involved would be a good fit for me: data analyst, actuary.

Not really working in the field that much? Just curious....sounds like you've spent most of your time in school... Ironically for the data analyst stuff...I would actually say you might look at CIS, or possibly computer science, but that is another degree and I doubt you want to go through the hell of doing that... You might look to see if there any research companies near you...for some reason when I think data analyst, I picture research firms... Pharmaceuticals... Big pharma has a lot of data to analyze, all the clinical trials they need to bend their way (not to mention the washing out of participants to hide occurrence of side effects)... Actually in all seriousness, the medical side has a lot of statistical crap... Could it be perhaps that the people who need people like you aren't where you are located? Not sure if you're near a big city or not but that has been a limiting factor for me. I just got lucky and happen to live where everyone retires and therefore no one knows how to use a computer and doesn't take much to impress hillbillies and satisfy the elderly... Well there's a lot of data everywhere... Would say something like NASA but I'm sure with a conservative NASA has about as much funding as public school district...

I was in a doctoral program and passed the qualifying exams. At that point I was close to a masters degree so it only made sense to continue the one semester to get it. I'm near NYC, and there's a lot of pharmaceutical companies here. Many of the jobs, even entry jobs, require experience which I just don't have.

A good way to stay unemployed is to limit yourself to one area.
