One Time Posters

I remember that this used to get to me when I was here before, and it's still going on...a newcomer posts about an issue in their life...we read it, think about it, post the most useful replies that we can manage.

We try to engage the person, especially if the issue seems serious.

And............nothing. We never hear from them again. It's like watching Part One of a drama and then having the FIOS go out just as Part Two is coming on.

C'mon people...even a "Your advice sucks and I'm never coming back would be better than silense.

After solving the problem, they probably forget GaySpeak.

My theory is that the post has been held back for approval and they never even saw the replies... or the post itself.

There are a lot that make introduction threads and then disappear too. I can kinda understand that to a degree, I did the same myself when I first joined in 2012, because I was not at all comfortable with who I am back then. But there does seem to be rather a lot of people doing this. Or maybe not? I have always thought there is a possibility that many of these threads could be being made by the same person, we have had some very odd individuals frequent the forum over the years, so you never know.

As for the advice threads, I do think Cuddly makes a very valid point, I reckon a fair few people never stick around for the silly amount of time it takes for their thread to appear, so they probably aren't seeing their threads or responses. Yes, the system is good at weeding out trolls but it also weeds out genuine newbies too it seems.

I think you're right Cridders88 and Cuddly, it's probably something to do with the posts being retained for moderation which puts them off. Many may not be so fond of posting on this site (or any site) in the first place. Who can tell what makes people stick around, or what makes people come back to their posts? I'm sure if the post is very relevant or the sought advice is important, the posters will come back and engage.

everything is instant and throwaway theses days then people move on to next thing - would be nice if a few we do help stick around to say how things turned out but the last 5 years at least has made me think people are basically snapchat humans - instant gratification then its gone

I do protest, matty7, I am no snapchat person, and neither are you. Rolleyes

I guess some people just really wanted to talk about their problems but have no means or anyone to do so. Thus they look for sites like gayspeak, without the intention to stay long. as they just want to solve the immediate problem ahead.

But some of them might end up sticking around too, so as long as they are not rude I don't mind trying to help them.

I call them one post wonders.

It could be any number of reasons. Maybe they regret posting here? Maybe someone replied with a snarky comment and they got scared off? Maybe they saw something shiny and got distracted?
Maybe they found porn and decided to jack off instead? Problem solved, right?

Darius you may be right, but how cynical, lol. You reckon porn is the key to every problem?
