What do you believe, and why?

Given that Atheism (lack of belief/faith in a god or gods) is the default position, what brought you to your religion/faith in a god/gods? And why do you continue on that path?

And if you WERE religious but are no longer, what made you return to Atheism?

I am speaking about myself here. I do not believe in traditional religions (Abrahamic) nor do I believe in Dharmic religions (Indian religions). I am not a "spiritual" person, whatever the hell that means! Yet I am the strongest adherent of the religion that originated in a Harappan city (Indus Valley Civilization). David/Francis (Cassidy) refers to his religion as "The Temple of Priapus": thephallicbrotherhooddotcom

Even though I understand that Cassidy refers to it as the "generic and timeless" god. This is a shortsighted view of the world.

As for religion, I do believe that there is a GOD and that HE created this entire Universe. As for life, HE did not put life on just one planet. There is life all throughout the Universe. Some has been in this Universe much longer than we have and tey know a lot more than we on this Planet know. They can travel thoughout the Universe and they have been here before.

I ask all of you this questions: Why would GOD put life on just this Planet when HE gave us free will and consent to do certain things? Why would he allow us to have all of these wars that we have and despite HIS 6th Commandment, "Though Shall not Kill," allow all of these wars to go on. We have almost destroyed this Planet many times over the thousands of years human life has been on thiis Earth. Where would HE be if we succeeded and did destroy this Earth?

YES --- there is a GOD. YES --- there is life on other Planets. YES --- they believe in GOD as well and it is the very same GOG that we here on Earth believe in.

I do not need you to prove your belief and I can respect and appreciate your dedication. I do not ascribe to any religion as a convert or other follower; but, I do know personally the power of faith in humans being fulfilled in our capacity to choose to change, taking this action in the face of risk, doing so in relationship with others, and manifesting the awe inspired by such being.

That is nice for you, but it is partly this lack of insistence for proof that has allowed toxic religions to not merely exist, but take over and oppress people and commit atrocities.
If people were and had always been required to provide proof of their religions - or at least reasoning/justification for having a religion for themselves - then perhaps we might have avoided a lot of suffering.

Let us not be dishonest and pretend that religions are innocuous.

And bare in mind my thread is entitled "What do you believe, and why?"

So as I was - proof? Or at the very least, reasoning?

YES --- there is life on other Planets. YES --- they believe in GOD as well and it is the very same GOG that we here on Earth believe in.

These are extraordinary claims. Which god do aliens believe in? Baring in mind that humans have invented thousands of gods. And how do you know this?
