The Swedes get it right...again
#1
[COLOR="Navy"]The governing board of the Church of Sweden (affiliated with the Lutheran Church) voted Thursday to allow clergy to perform Same-Sex weddings. The church has been performing blessing ceremonies since 1997 but had never taken an official position on Marriage Equality.

The board approved it overwhelmingly, passing the measure 176-62. The national government passed a law granting full marriage rights this past summer, making it the fifth European country to do so.

Hopefully some of the other churches will embrace this....we can dream.

... and if you don't want a church wedding, you can upgrade your civil partnership to a marriage at the local tax office.

We're very enlightened here Smile

Glad to hear that, the Swedes have got it right. Does the other scandinavian countries have the same open minded views as the Swedes?

Norway has had Same-Sex marriage for quite a while , Denmark has civil unions much like the UK, and Finland is currently working on Same-Sex adoption. So yeah Scandinavia is pretty open minded.

It is a great place to live as a gay couple. There was far more shock and chattering in our tiny village about the fact that two Brits had moved to their village to run a farm. The fact we are gay was never an issue or worth discussing and not relevant.

Yeah, very practical, isn't it. LOL! I love the idea of going to the tax office to upgrade in about 18 months or so when we get Swedish citizenship.

A very civilised country, why can't other countries behave like the Swedes.

The world needs to take a hint from the progressive countries in Northern Europe.

It seems that the reasons for this decision are not quite as we might imagine.
