Magic, mystery and majesty in this magnificent reading of the second movement of Beethoven's Seventh Symphony.
And this is not von Karajan, but rather Bernstein conducting (and talking about) the 3rd movement, the Gavotte, from another of my long-time favourite symphonies, Prokofiev's 1st (the "Classical").
That set me thinking about other favourite works, so I looked for a lively version of Janacek's Sinfonietta and hit the jackpot with this very nice version choreographed by Jiri Kylian.
A Sea Symphony is a choral symphony by Ralph Vaughan Williams, written between 1903 and 1909. Vaughan Williams's first and longest symphony, it was first performed at the Leeds Festival in 1910.
