Its true that 99% of Germany hated the nazis. There was no option if you were with the nazis or not. Either your with them, or you get to watch your family get shot..

I think its something your grandparenths made up.

I don't think 99% hated the nazis; obviously they didn't. But the ones that did were probably the only ones saying anything after it was over with, and the supporters kept their mouths shut, at least in public - or they lied. I don't think we're in a position to judge what people living under any regieme do, if opposing it gets them executed. I think everyone wants to save his own head and few of us are heroes and martyrs. But we're rash to judge and tell ourselves and others we would have been because we have the priviledge of free speech to kid each other with and no opposition when we do, so it's easy - they didn't have that luxury.

It amazes me that people still associate people from modern day Germany with the Nazis. I lived in Germany for three years and in my experience the German people are ashamed of their past mistakes. In some places bringing up those subjects is considered at best very rude and at worst fighting words. The people of Germany today have absolutely nothing to do with what their great grandparents generation did, just as the people of the US have nothing to do with our ancestors who imported slaves, or the English have nothing to do with their ancestors who slaughtered the Scots.

Yeah, I agree. People seem to have a morbid kind of fascination with nazi Germany, I mean when you think about it, it's hard to imagine how that could happen, it just seems totally sick. But you're right, Germans are ashamed of that part of their history, and it has nothing to do with our mentality today. I don't mind questions though, so I wasn't offended. Confusedmile:
