#31
Zazz Wrote:The british accents are split up into groups. Confusedmile: There's English, Scottish, Irish, Welsh and mixed and within those categories they have sub-accents like Bristol and Cardiff, etc.

PS: I love canadian accents, I think ther're sexy.

The best UK dialect (sub-accent) is blatently the cockney accent tho!! I say that as a non-cockney... although I a born and bred Londoner.. but there is a difference ya'know Wink

Well I'm from Derbyshire so I should by rights have a northern (ok, a northern midlands) accent, but I lost it as we moved down here when I was two, so I have to put it on when I'm dealing with people from back home to blend in *does a blending in movement with his hands* Lol2.

I love different accents, and love to mimic them, but I have to say (Saltybeanz), Welsh is by far the hardest to do in my opinion. The accent is almost always on the vowel, and it seems to be much more regularly placed on the vowels than in other accents, giving the language a floatier, almost songlike quality that I could listen to for hours ...

Ok ok, add to that my boyfriend's Welsh so Rolleyes .

But yeah - I LOVE accents ... I can always remember going to the States and having people tell me "oh I love your accent" and I'd be all "no no NO my friend, YOU'RE the one with the ... oh ... wait a minute ...."

Hee hee !

Welsh boyfriend?! Good choice  And yes most of the time people try to mimic the welsh and it comes out indian.. I dont have a strong welsh accent, unless I talk to someone with one! The cardiff accent, (Which I luckily dont have!), is all about the "A" like my name is pronounced Maaaaark. Mehh :frown:

BTW Torchwood rocks my socks. Big Grin

Martyn's like you I think - his accent only really comes through when he's either a) in the company of family or close mates; or b) when he's pronouncing certain words like "muthered" - "muvvered" (as in when his rugby teams gets STUFFED).

He's SO FRIGGIN' CUTE I love him .
