Real gay 'pride'
#1
:confused::confused::confused:
I'm confused guys, i'm into an ideological dilemma with myself. Too much teenager. Let me explain what i think.

Rainbows have recently started to make me sick, you know what i mean by rainbows: exaggerated pride manifestation, behaving 'very gay', exuberance; following the stereotypes believing that's a good way to show PRIDE. I think that by being like that we become every day more different, every day more odd and apart from society, there's too much hate and incomprehension wandering around in society, and making ourselves heard and understood it's not by being like that much 'gay', the opposite instead.
I think gayness should throw away that mass media image of the parades, of the vicious sexual life and promiscuity, we should stick to love, simplicity; and to show there's real affection and true feelings in homosexual life far from the 'not straight' subject that fucks by the anus and goes to party everywhere at every time dressed in bright tight clothes, that generates repulsion!!, i obviously know that there are ones from one side and other ones from the other. That's the way to get into society, i think, to be accepted naturally, not trying to be accepted by force, that's worse. And when i think that, i feel that i'm being homophobic, i dunno why, i feel i'm asking for respect while i'm discriminating at the same time. Very confusing.
To sum up, i think we should change our idea of 'pride'.
But... to be honest... I really dont know if all those thinks are really my thoughts, or if i'm thinking bullshit, nowadays i feel that i can't be sure in my thoughts and have strong feelings about something... I think i'm too ignorant and teenager. I'm changing everytime my points of view, that's horrible.
Tell me what u think.

i dunno. it's just a preference like any other preference. i don't ever really hear about "straight pride", so why should i make gay pride a big deal? i just think we should keep our gay pride to ourselfs...

indeed, that's part of my ideal 'real pride' Wink not to stick to the differences just be the same as others, but with different sexual preferences (which is absolutely not the whole thing)

Right,

I know the comparison of black and gay freedom is sometimes frowned upon, but I think there area similarities.

Black people in the Western world, it took a long time before black slavery was abolished and people had to go on marches and have heroes like Martin Luther King to gain basic rights and to help prevent the hatred and prejudice that faced them.

It was only 40 years ago that in the UK, being gay was decriminalised. In many other parts of the world, it STILL is illegal to be gay, with the death sentence as worst case punishment in some places. We are still gaining some basic rights that the black people were fighting for their community, I mean some states of the US and UK, we now have "civil partnerships" giving gay couples similar rights as straight married couples.

The Gay Pride marches should be about getting these rights, although it does seem to be more about who can dress up in the most colourful costumes!!

I'm never much good with words / debates but I hope you get my drift on this. Smile

YESS! **Applauds frenetically**

Totally agree with your post. Being "out" doesn't have to mean being obnoxious, in my opinion.

We have to recognize that, as in every society or group of people, obviously there are differences; that we are all gay it doesn't mean we're all the same, as stereotype followers wrongly think. Unluckily, that means there is no democracy among gays, and the 'colorful' ones have a stronger and, by consequence, more outstanding image. At least what both my parents told me when i came out was that i was bound to enter to a community where i'd be surrounded by promiscuity and drugs. We all here know that's, of course, not necessarily true. There's to get rid of that 'rotten-minded', 'twisted way of being' image we give to society.
But im asking for too much, reckon i'm speaking obvious things. not so sure. XD

PS: We should STOP calling 'straight' to heterosexuals... i know thats a shorter word but...

on a related note,

i just saw "i now pronounce you chuck and larry" and the movie really made me sad; seeing how gays are "supposed" to act and how they were trying to be a normal gay couple by completely blowing their sexual and promiscuous side out of proportion. i know it was supposed to be a comedy, but as a gay man i felt more like it was underlining the perception of the world on gay life, which things like gay prides encourage. i have absolutely nothing against anyone expressing themselves freely, the danger is in those who happen to be in the gay category but not overly "exuberant" to be meshed in the same behavioural pattern. and that is a cause of much prejudice, because now "gay" is associated immediately with "promiscuity" and "effervescence" and whatnot, clearly something completely off track from the simple term to define a person who is attracted by those of the same sex. it is given moral and aesthetical values. just like saying every black man likes hip-hop or every asian woman can cook rice.

this is not a lesson or a moral speech for those who are gay pride material, i actually find it intriguing even if it is not my style, it is simply an observation on how closed-minded most people are in discerning the neutral meanings of the term "gay", "homosexual", "queer" etc.

they judge before they know.

'tis a messed-up world we live in.

Yes, i guess we are a tier below blacks on recognition and acceptation, or maybe two. People now, in 21ts century, don't have anything to blame blacks with, nowadays to say that a black is less intelligent (or less whatever) for his or her skin color is something really stupid.
But today, people tend to say sexuality is made for human reproduction, and that gays attempt against that statement; without considering the emotional side of that sexuality, that has to do with likes and pleasure. Added to the repulsion and bad image generated by 'proud behavior' and those blessed stereotypes.
