Just curious how everyone thinks this years elections of predominantly conservative candidates will affect the LGBT communities. Especially where I'm from in Texas.
I know recently there was a raid at a bathhouse in Dallas. Is a sign of things to come. Should we as patrons of such establishments be worried about going to the baths and getting arrested for engaging in private activities in public spaces, so to speak.
Just asking, because I have been avoiding the local baths and wonder if it is safe to go now that the elections are over.

Have you read the Texas Republican Platform...especially the part about Gay People?
Marriage Licenses - We support legislation that would make it a felony to issue a marriage license to a same-sex couple and for any civil official to perform a marriage ceremony for such.
The proposal from Republicans in the Lone Star state makes the following claims related to the party's view of homosexuality:
•"We believe that the practice of homosexuality tears at the fabric of society, contributes to the breakdown of the family unit, and leads to the spread of dangerous, communicable diseases."
•"Homosexual behavior is contrary to the fundamental, unchanging truths that have beenordained by God, recognized by our country's founders, and shared by the majority of Texans."
•"Homosexuality must not be presented as an acceptable "alternative" lifestyle in our public education and policy, nor should "family" be redefined to include homosexual "couples."
The recently rolled-out platform from the Texas GOP has also come under scrutiny for advocating to outlaw all "sexually-oriented businesses" -- including strip clubs and "all pornography" -- while allowing virtually unrestricted access to oil and gas drilling

All I can say is the Obama administration better get there act together and get DADT off the books before the new guys come into congress.

In reply to the OP, I think you will have to wait to see what the difference between their rhetoric and meaningful actions turns out to be.

So what if he has appointed a surprising number of openly gay and lesbian people to government jobs? With the exception of those who have got those jobs why should the rest of America's gays and lesbians be thankful? To me it seems like symbolism instead of real action.

I believe that Barack has helped to provide the opportunity for gay people by these appointments, It is up to these people to show the American public that they can be trusted and be respected by the people. Many will now have to accept and work with openly gay public figures, this will help the gay community eventually. Leading hopefully to better understanding and acception of gay people, a lot more still needs to be done to achieve this goal. The commercial section has made positive gains for gay people, now the government administration is changing with better opportunities for change. Now we need to push the pentagon and the houses on DADT, and make the educational system safer for all gay and non gay students. Still a long road ahead and with many bridges to cross.
