Although, I don't feel like there's enough information to know if it is caused by changes in reporter bias, maybe more people are just reporting the crimes and there hasn't been more crimes.

Maybe there are members of certain communities that still think that it's ok to gay bash??? So once again, it's all to do with education (and maybe the lack of religious encroachment)

im voting for TimyThink goin all Punisher on soho (bring the pain) - seriously....the police know areas of more concern - its up to them to do there job,....but when an out of date tax disc or other car offence is counted the same as a rape or hate crime then why would they bother going out of there way to do more !!!

Unless I put on one my many Punisher shirts, go down to London an take care of things Frank Castle style. Schuss

Can I just say that Frank Castle would totally fix this whole civil rights thing in one night. H would be all " You dont like the gay? Too bad" Then he would stab them all in the femeral artery.

Its a real shame all joking aside. I thought for sure that the hate crimes would be less in an area like that. I mean if a gay guy went into a baptist church and started wailing on the preist he would get swarmed pretty fast. So Why arent we defending ourselfs here?

To be fair, we don't always know the situations. I know a very big guy who got bashed pretty badly, the problem wasn't strength but numbers - five or more of them versus just him. All joking about site's reputation or percentages aside (which to my mind is known more for a margin of error when it comes to polls and this wasn't a poll, though I do recognize not all crimes are reported), if a certain area is being targeted because it's known as a gay area, if there's some sort of trend to do that, there should be extra caution. We can't assume that just because we're in a gay-friendly neighborhood that we're safe, and whatever people think of the police over there or this story, I hope it at least makes you all think about the whole strength in numbers thing and are careful when out by your self.

I'm on it sir, but first I'll have to figure out where the hell Soho is, second I'll have to get over the fact that in actuality I am a giant, giant pussy.

Whenever I walk into Soho I am almost always on my own and I've never had any trouble. It is still a fascinating area of London. A huge rise in gay-bashing is apparently taking place in Amsterdam, which to me is an even more shocking statistic, where the perpetrators are often (it seems) young men of Turkish or North African origin. Sad
