The Right to Keep and Bear Arms.
#51
If you notice from that list presented by Stu the 3 countries above the United States have stricter gun control laws then the US but each has much higher murder rate.

South Africa 1 murder per 1,566 people with 12 firearms per 100 people
Columbia 1 murder per 2,091 people with 5.9 firearms per 100 people
Thailand 1 murder per 3,450 people with 15.6 firearms per 100 people

the U.S has a much much lower rate with 1 murder per 32,872 people and 88.8 firearms per 100

If we go the bottom of the list we find

Iceland 0 murders per 310000 people and 30 firearms per 100 people
Luxembourg 0 murders per 505,000 and 15.3 firearms per 100 people
Oman 0 murders per 2,782,435 with 25.4 firearms per 100 people

These numbers come from the web site you posted, compared to the populations of those countries, and then uses data on the number of legally owned weapons in each country.

Many of these countries except America have firearms registrations laws meaning that the data on the number of civilian firearm possession is based on governmental sources.

This figures could however be due to many many different influences which would be hard to enumerate. However it seems from your statistics that you don't have to remove firearms from the hands of the civilian population in order to affect lower firearm crime rates.

If this is the case then I have to point the finger at the sociological influences that drive crime rates higher rather then the prevalence of legal firearms. In other words it is best to solve the problems causing the violence rather then depriving the law abiding citizen the ability to own a means of protection from violence.
