Father embraces gay son and bf in Mexican Doritos ad
Posted by: andy - 01-08-2021, 11:07 AM - Forum: Gay-News - No Replies

[Image: doritosthebestgiftdip_yt_doritos_mx_750x422_09.jpg]

Doritos Mexico just released an ad about a divorced father trying to find a way to embrace his gay son and his new boyfriend — and it's giving us all the feels.

The two-minute ad, which is called The Best Gift, is based on true story and opens as a young man is talking to his father on the phone. The son is returning home for Christmas and says he’s bringing along a friend who has no place to go for the holidays.

Created by Slap Buenos Aires and directed by Primo Mexico’s Nico Veiga, the ad follows the three as they share the holidays together while the father narrates the post he is writing to Reddit.

“I am a 52-year-old divorced father and I need help,” he says. “My son and his friend are a couple and do not dare to tell me.”

The father is a strong, weathered, and introspective man, quietly observing the little moments between the two boys that gave a glimpse of the pair’s loving relationship. He goes on to say the pair were doing their best “to be subtle” but it was obvious they were more than just friends. The two jostle together closely in the cab of a truck.

Then, the sleepy-eyed son orders for his friend without thinking at a restaurant with their father, much to the horror of the blue-haired boyfriend. The father lets them know that “everything is fine,” but he still struggles to find just how he should introduce the subject.

The ad is part of the continued LGBTQ+ outreach programs of Doritos.

Doritos Rainbow has been supporting the LGBTQ+ community since 2016, and the company recently started a #PrideAllYear campaign allowing the public to post their own stories.

"We’re really proud of the accomplishments that have been achieved with Doritos Rainbow," Eduardo Córdoba, marketing director for Doritos Mexico, is quoted by DesignTaxi. “We believe the moment is right to show that our commitment extends beyond a proud celebration every June.”

While we don’t want to spoil the ending for you, let’s just say it has a very happy ending. Watch the clip below!

Jim Parsons on straight actors playing gay parts: “There’s a spectrum"
Posted by: andy - 01-08-2021, 10:36 AM - Forum: Gay-News - No Replies

Jim Parsons has shared his thoughts around the debate regarding straight actors playing gay characters.

The actor, who recently starred in Ryan Murphy’s Netflix remake of The Boys in the Band said spoke of “this spectrum” and nodded to Brokeback Mountain as a good example.

“There’s definitely this spectrum: I think the fight, as it were, is not about having only gay people play the gay parts but to ensure that all parts are open to all actors,” Parsons said in a recent interview with the Los Angeles Times.

“It’s important that gay characters are portrayed as well-rounded and completely human individuals,” he added.

“And there are plenty of straight actors who have played gay characters brilliantly. I think Brokeback Mountain is one of the most touching gay movies and love stories I have ever seen, and those two straight actors [Heath Ledger and Jake Gyllenhaal] were the best choices for those roles.”

Elsewhere, Jim Parsons revealed last year that he had auditioned for a part in the US remake of The Office.

“I was like, ‘how stupid, it’s about an office. If America wanted their own office show, they would have already made it by now,’” he said, without saying which role he was auditioning for.

He added: “So I’m not good at telling what’s going to stay or not.”

Real-Life gay couple share a Cadbury's Egg in TV ad
Posted by: andy - 01-08-2021, 10:18 AM - Forum: Gay-News - Replies (1)

Cadbury’s released a new, very gay inclusive advertisement for their famed Crème Egg. It features two men kissing and biting into an egg together, and let’s just say we’re surprised the chocolate didn’t melt from all the heat.

Released on Monday, the ad celebrates five decades of Cadbury hollow chocolate egg-filled with a sweet fondant. The narrator calls it the celebration a Golden Goobilee, then honours all the different types of customers who can’t get enough of the gooey goodness.

There’s the dipper and the licker (who likes to suggestively and expertly tongue out the creamy filling from a cracked egg), but it’s the last type of consumer highlighted in the ad that got our goo going.

Called sharers, in the ad two men are depicted holding hands and dancing under the lights on a rooftop deck. Then, while one of the two bearded beauties holds the delicate chocolate egg between his teeth, the other man leans in to take a long, slow bite, the thick and creamy white filling slowly pulling between the two men.

“We are down with that,” says the narrator.

Yeah, we’re down with that, too. The men are real-life couple Callum Sterling and Dale K Moran.

The ad is one of two holiday ads aimed at increasing LGBTQ+ representation and outreach. Doritos Mexico released a commercial last month showing a divorced father reaching out for help in communicating his acceptance of his gay son and his boyfriend.

It looks like we’ll be eating and dreaming of those Cadbury Crème Eggs long after the holidays are over.

Greece Appoints First Ever Openly Gay Minister
Posted by: andy - 01-06-2021, 03:39 PM - Forum: Gay-News - Replies (3)

Nicolas Yatromanolakis is the first ever openly gay government minister in Greece

Greece appointed its first ever openly gay minister on Monday, as PM Kyriakos Mitsotakis reshuffled his cabinet.

Nicolas Yatromanolakis makes Greek political history as he will become the country’s Deputy Minister for Issues of Contemporary Culture.

He will work in the Culture and Sports Ministry, under Lina Mendoni, who remains in her post after the reshuffle.

LGBT rights
Lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) rights in Greece have evolved significantly over the last years, establishing it as one of the most liberal countries in Southeast Europe.

Discrimination is not as common as it once was, although LGBT people in Greece still face social challenges not experienced by non-LGBT residents.

Despite this, Greek public opinion on homosexuality is generally regarded as culturally liberal, with same-sex unions being legally recognized since 2015.

Yatromanolakis’ career
Yatromanolakis was born in Athens in 1975. He holds a BA in Political Science & International Relations from Panteion University, Athens, and a Master’s in Public Policy from Harvard University’s John F. Kennedy School of Government.

Between January 2017 – July 2019 he served as Chief Marketing & Communication Officer of the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center.

Yatromanolakis has served in various senior positions in Greek and multinational companies such as Microsoft, V+O Communication, S&B Industrial Minerals and Alpha TV, as well as at the Hellenic Foundation of European & Foreign Policy (ELIAMEP) and Harvard University.

He has also worked as an independent strategy, public affairs and communication consultant. His work has received several awards in Greece and abroad.

Yatromanolakis was a founding member and a Steering Committee member of the Potami political party, as well as the party’s campaign manager for the 2014 EU elections. In the January 2015 parliamentary elections he ranked second among the party’s candidates in the City of Athens district. He left Potami in 2016.

The newly-appointed minister has been active in the field of human rights, focusing on LGBT+ rights. He has participated voluntarily in nonprofit organizations focusing on the social inclusion of vulnerable populations, as well as the mental and physical health of children.

Yatromanolakis is a 2013 Marshall Memorial Fellow. In 2019 he was elected member of the Board of Directors of the Harvard Club of Greece.

Gay man legally changes name to Celine Dion
Posted by: andy - 01-02-2021, 12:53 PM - Forum: Gay-News - No Replies

Celine Dion and Celine Dion

A 30-year-old gay man from Staffordshire, UK drank so much one night during the festive period that he legally changed his name to Celine Dion.

On 30 December, the man formerly known as Thomas Dodd posted a photo on Twitter of a pile of paper work and wrote: “Tier 4 is the least of my worries – I’ve just got home to some post.

“Apparently at some point over Christmas I’ve had one too many vinos and legally changed my name to Celine Dion!”

He told BirminghamLive that he is “slightly obsessed” with the singer, and has been watching a lot of her live concerts while in lockdown.

“I walked in from work and there was a big white envelope with ‘do not bend’ written across it,” he said.

“I nearly passed out in my kitchen when I opened it.

“My initial concern was how on earth do I tell the HR department at work that I need to change my email footer!? Now I’m thinking it could be a great way to get backstage.

“I’m just praying I don’t get pulled over by the police for anything – that could get awkward!”

In his drunken state, Celine was so desperate to be able to prove his new name to people that he ordered eight extra certificates.

He added: “Apparently it’s the funniest thing people have read in 2020. I’m glad it’s entertaining people though, it’s not been the best year. Hopefully it will give people a laugh even if it is at my expense.

“My mother didn’t see the funny side though. I did explain it could be worse and it could’ve been Boris Johnson – we’re just lucky he doesn’t have any live concerts. She’s laughing about it now.

“I told my sister and she choked on her sandwich. They seem to be seeing the funny side.”

Movie about gay couple who adopt a homeless child is a success in China
Posted by: andy - 01-01-2021, 06:57 PM - Forum: Gay-Movies - No Replies

A simple film about a gay couple who adopt a homeless child, Forbidden Love in Heaven has become something almost unthinkable for gay filmmakers and moviegoers in China: a hit

In a nation where acceptance of same-sex couples is progressing at a less-than-glacial rate, Chinese filmmakers have long been censored and nettled by authorities’ inability to acknowledge that gay people even exist.

But 19-year-old filmmaker Ran Yinxiao sought to challenge the industry with his film, Forbidden Love in Heaven, released on local streaming platforms in July 2020.

It was a “bold attempt to explore the difficulties that sexual minorities face in starting a family”, Yinxiao told South China Morning Post.

“My thinking was that if three different people without any blood ties could start a family, then this must be the world’s strongest family,” he said.

Indeed, the film presented a fresh test for media regulators, where the broadcasting of “vulgar, immoral and unhealthy content” is banned by the National Radio and Television Administration.

The agency’s regulations have forced many moviemakers to veil queer stories in subtext or cut and censor their films to get them aired – Yinxiao managed to drop the trailer for his film only after making it more “ambiguous”, he said.

“I think to myself, why do moviemakers exist?” Yinxiao added.

“Our camera lens is our weapon. We enlarge the aperture to allow more light to shine on the places of the world that aren’t easily seen.

Yinxiao, a Communication University of China film student, based his film on a real-life family. He said it had one simple aim: “I wanted to emphasise that an LGBT couple can raise and nurture a child too.”

Forbidden Love in Heaven received positive reviews on social media platform Weibo, the Post reported, and netted neutral coverage in state-run media. It was a small victory, Yinxiao acknowledged, but one that has buoyed him to continue making content that centres LGBT+ families.

“I hope our film is the start of this acceptance,” reflected Zhang Xin, an actor who played one of the film’s fathers.

“And I hope that in the future there’ll be more movies of this kind; maybe our movie can be a pioneer, a small pioneer.”

A study jointly conducted by the United Nations Development Programme, Peking University and the Beijing LGBT Center in 2016 found that only five per cent of “sexual and gender minority people” in China are “willing to live their diversity openly”.

In 2020 LGBT+ activists fought – and failed – to be counted in the country’s decennial census and demand marriage equality be finally legalised.
