One of the three local gay bars in Myrtle Beach caught fire Thursday morning. I dont frequent any of the gay bars but was still saddened by the news. They have no idea what caused the fire. The staff is hoping to rebuild and reopen some time in the future.
MYRTLE BEACH - Dozens of firefighters from two different departments responded to an early-morning fire that shut down streets in the Five Points area of downtown Myrtle Beach Thursday.
Myrtle Beach fire and police departments and Horry County Fire Rescue crews worked the fire early Thursday morning at Time Out night club and bar.
According to Myrtle Beach Fire Department Chief Alvin Payne, firefighters got the first call of flames showing at 3:21 a.m. Chief Payne said no one was hurt, the roof of the Time Out building collapsed, and no other buildings were hurt.
"Shocked and disappointment and then loneliness I guess you can say," said Tim McGhee, who often went to the nightclub.
As of 6:15 a.m., firefighters had the fire 99 percent contained, and they now are not too worried about the rest of the building collapsing.
"Everyone comes to our bar. It's a great place to come and have a good time," McGhee said. "It's going to effect more than just the gay people. There's a lot of straight people that come, visitors, out-of-towners so it's just going to be like an icon lost."
