my own experience with it... I was a godparent to Zach.
His uncle passed and he didn't understand what that meant. Seemed like the way he wrapped his mind around it was, "so Kevin won't be coming by anymore?" and we said no, he went to Heaven.
That seemed to make sense to him. Now that he is older he understands, but... it is always good to have somebody kind around when you are young. It's part of being a good person, right? Not every kid is lucky enough to have good people around them.
