From a distance and under the right light, it may very well look like there is no iris. If you can look closer at any of the images you can see that there is a bluish tint to his eyes.

Not to get off the subject here, but bright blue eyes are more prevalent in African and Asian countries, where there are black people who have been there for generations.

Somebody once explained it as the DNA clashing when mixed from two peoples. Like when some people have an Albino baby, where skin and hair pigment was offset by the clash of the two genetics. The same happens when bright blues eyes occur.

Most people only notice it in the black races because its such a contrast to their skin tones. When it happens in the white races, its not noticeable, because its not much of a clash in color and we are used to seeing a lot of white races with blues eyes.
