How are you today?
AlfredM Wrote:I recently had a bad hair cut myself. Originally, I wanted to look like something like this:

but instead, I feel like I look like a pineapple due to my chubby cheeks, and maybe the barber left my top hair a bit too long, I don't know, lol. Then of course, my parents were furious with my experiment, saying it's non-Islamic or whatever, urgh. I can't stand this. Unemployment is messing with my head. And every time I went for an interview, I feel like I was being reminded that it doesn't matter how smart am I, social anxiety will always be my biggest obstacle. That was basically what I was told in my last 2 interviews, "poor social skills", "reserved". Not to mention, nothing I do feels satisfying or deserving anymore. No amount of foods, orgasm, weekend getaway, movies or series could make me content like before. I don't know how to have fun alone anymore, it seems like the only good time that I have is when I'm with my friends, and that's like once a month. Enough rant.

The only good thing is, April has come, probably my most favourite month of the year (I might be biased since it's my birth month,lol) with Spring (as if we experience that here), April Fool pranks, and all the promotions and free stuff given out (free movie tickets,wee~). I also intend to make some big changes, hopefully it's not just words, and get an actual help for my social anxiety despite my parents seem to think it's not that big of a deal (but my hair cut was,geez) and I could get rid of it with doing more religious activities (right).

Yeah, that's it for now. Hope you peeps are doing well, sorry for being distant from the forum for such a long time, I tend to shy away from people when my mind is messy.

When I started styling my hair instead of just keeping it very very short all over, I had a similar style in mind. However, you have to have the right hair for it. I have never managed to get it to look like that, it won't ever play ball whatever product I put in it. So I found a different look/style instead. I am sorry your parents reacted that way Sad. It pains me to read that parents can get furious over something like that. It's not like you are insisting on going everyhere in just your underwear or something. Jeez! SMH.

Sorry to hear the job hunting isn't going so well. It is tough, I was knocked back for a year and a half by employers for similar reasons, down to my social anxiety too. It may seem fruitless at present, but you have got to keep trying, you will get there mister :bighugs:

It seems like you are suffering from some depression, not surprising given your circumstance. I do hope you feel better soon Smile. It does seem like you have a few things coming up to help with that.

Good to see you back Alfred. Time away is needed sometimes. Any time you want to talk dude, I'll lend an ear, social anxiety is something I battle every day too. Bighug Bighug Bighug

I wouldn't say I have a high proficiency, so much as I do a large vocabulary. You see my main weakness with Japanese, is Nuance, cause unlike any other language I know;

As I'm sure you know, Japanese has got a ridiculous amount of "isms" that English certainly doesn't have and I have to remember those things the most.

I wanna go ahead and Skip N5 and go into N4, because N5 focuses mainly on Vocab and general understanding;

And I'm not fluent, but I have been learning (off and on) since I was 15, so I can get by and perhaps I may even Skip to N3, if the N4 test example is anything to go by.

I just wanna as I said; Focus on upping my nuance skills, cause translating words is pretty easy, but understanding the "whys" and "whens" to use a word or phrase is what's kicking my ass a lil LoL.

I often write Japanese (and other language ) short stories and recently as per recommended to me by a Japanese CEO here on my island; A little thread I titled GCLnT (Game Culture Localization and Translation);

In an endeavour to build up my repertoire of Video game vocabulary, as I want to at some point do Localization as well as the hand in hand Translation aspect of it as well.

No one on my Island right now is really doing it and I figured this would also be a good way to help foster new opportunities and so forth, both for my self and for my island.

Starting as small as a Video Game tho of course xD Sheep

I think you could definitely go for N3 at least, your Japanese is definitely better than mine. I've stopped watching anime for a few years and since then, it's not improving. Way to go with your GCLnT work gurl~!

I'm not so sure what did you mean by nuance and "isms" here, my linguistic terminology sucks. You mean something like suffix?

Good luck with your JLPT~! Now I feel inspired to take N3 myself, been wanting to take my Japanese to the next level. :3

I should have known better not to try something like that while still living with my conservative parents, sigh. Yeah, I probably don't have the right hair nor face for it, I guess I'll stick with the old plain short hair.

Getting a job is already hard enough in this bad economy, on top of that with this social anxiety, I feel hopeless. To the point I stopped applying in the last month. There's a career fair next week at my university campus, I'm going to give a shot there. Gotta get back on the hunt.

Thanks a lot Simon, good to see that you're still here too! Smile

@ starlight Not that you should not stay in control while drinking but this might just be a clue to the cause of some of your continual problems. You were buzzed and in a club and were able to slough off criticism, carry on somewhat outlandishly with the guy at the urinal and actually strike up a conversation with a stranger and get a hug out of it. Sounds like you did all right. IMPORTANT: Do not make alcohol your enabler.l Just let the episode teach you that relaxing a bit might be good for you.
