You get all nutcases. So this guy was upset about legalized homosexuality (what's illegal about it).
And what did he get for it... death. What did the world learn from his action... not a hell of a lot.

This has been on my mind all day. Its just so screwed up. You think when a person dies, its a letting go of things, even if one had lived a bad life, in those last moments, you would hope its a time to see things clearer, you have no more life, time to drop earthly prejudices, this guy died the way he lived, he tried to make a statement, become a matyr, we can never know the corners of his mind. But his most sincere hope, like lalo said, was to make us second class citizens, or worse. He didnt succede but may have some consequences.

If you read his blog, his letter, the reactions about his death and if you replace it in the context of what happens in France just for this law, you understand why I (we?) get nutcase. There's not just one guy who killed himself, but lots of things which got worse and worse till a guy died for that. I think it's not harmless. It's not just a guy upset by this law but a guy evoking the needs of going further than demonstrate. It wouldn't have been such a thing if he just had done that in his closet.

My sympathies lie with the gay people who have committed suicide because of attitudes like his. I am glad he is gone.

I think the best thing we have to do is to take it with humour, maybe with anger, but please, no empathy, typically, that's the trap they want to bring French in with all that story. I refuse to accept that empathy is a display of weakness. Misery begets misery and anger begets anger. The guy is dead. Life has so much potential and he wasted his with hate, then ended it. I do feel sorry him, but that shouldn't mean that I or any other rational human being would think "Gee, maybe he has a point..." If someone is that easily persuadable then... who cares about them? The future is in our favor, the world is shifting. This was an act of a desperate man. What we as the LGBTQ+ community have in our favor is the knowledge that our position is about the celebration of love and acceptance. Dancing on anyone's grave is not going to help, even if it feels good to do in the moment. Restraint..... Compassion.... These are good things, difficult, yes. But good. Some of the posts celebrating this guy's death are pretty disgusting. |
