Mediums real or fakes
#11
No. It's more overly the fact my mother can't accept me due to her blind following of religion. I'm pretty sure if the Mormons told her to kill me, she would

There are 'psychic' people. However the way these abilities really work are not useful enough for most people to cash in on it.

Real 'mediums' don't advertise, most struggle with it, most don't want it. And those who do come to accept it and use it to any length don't charge admission fees. No more than you would charge for helpful advise to a person's problem.

Those who charge it are usually running a con-game, or are using psychology badly (to cause harm, to earn a dollar, whatever). TV ones are all shams, Like a magician, not like a wizard (Magicians use illusion, Wizards use magic).

I have my moment of precognition, I can't control it in any meaningful way, and I definitely never see tomorrow's lotto numbers today. I do pick up on a few things about people, random, usually useless tidbits. There is no way I can stand there and speak to a dead person and get all of that information, such as names, and what message they have for you (and for only $19.99 I will pass that message on to you!)

The closest I have come to using precog as a money maker was to be 'drawn' to a video poker machine and insert quarters and it dealt off a straight flush on the first try. Oh there was a second time when I was "compelled" (Hard to explain, sort of a very strong gut intuition to play the game) to play Keno and got a $280.00 win - which was lucky because someone had stolen $250 from me the day earlier for my rent.

Most people have a psychic moment at least once in their life. Call it coincidence, or fate or dumb luck, but a lot of people have these sort of 'eureka' moments.

Few can control it to any degree, and very rare ones are in contact with the dead or have their 'ability' on demand. Those who do have such strong abilities are usually the ones who do they damnedest to get away from it.

There are those who are good with their ability, however they don't charge a fee, they will accept gifts (willingly given, not emotionally black mailed out of a person). They tend to be a bit more spot on than those TV personalities.

But I have to wonder, if some person who claimed to be a Psychic,Medium,Precog or Empath even, where to just look at you and know a great deal without you uterring a word, what would you do Sis?

Because some people are good at picking up on subliminal cues, such as Facial Structure, Body Language, Nervous Ticks, Muscular tension, Breath Rate and Motor Control, to tell them about you, without them even realizing they're doing it, which can allow them to gather information about you.

But what about internal things? Like if someone told you specific details of a phrase you shared with your significant person in private? Whether that person is deceased or not?

I remember meeting someone who said a medium he met in America knew that he and his grandmother had a special thing with Red Balloons, that not even his mother knew about.

And Mediumship is more than just talking with the dead and especially telling fortunes, that's something a Psychic could do or a Precog. They strike me as more of a Mental Empath, someone skilled in the awareness or sensitivity of the mind, rather than Emotions.

And why do people who believe in the afterlife and ghosts, not believe in a person who can communicate with them? I don't particularly believe there are people who can, but if other such things can exist, why not that?

The problem is when people start accepting these "powers" as real once a few paranormal speculations turn out to be correct. Just because a fortuneteller got lucky and managed to get one, or even several things right, it doesn't prove in ANY way that the powers are real.

In my opinion people who believe in these things have either been fooled or hold too little interest in how spectacular the human body and human capabilities are that they need to diminish it with the belief in fantastical abilities that have never been proven.

I'm tired of hearing people say "I'm open minded" about mediums. (Nothing personal Odi.) As far as I'm concerned, you have to be close minded to believe. I think a truly open, curious, inquisitive mind quickly loses interest in paranormal explanations for such things.

I've never seen a TV medium's performance that isn't easily ridiculed. The few I've witnessed in person haven't done any better. I know people here have had experiences that seem to support some sort of psychic abilities, and I'm not about to say I'm right and you're wrong. Just understand that our minds have a way of convincing us of what we want to believe.

Derren Brown is a fantastically skilled performer. Here is a short clip of him mimicking the powers of a medium. Many of his tricks and illusions are seemingly unexplainable, but he is the first to point out that they are nothing more than tricks. If he can fool people so completely, so can others.

As is the case in almost any debate, it's impossible to claim that you know side X is right or wrong. However, it should be obvious that the burden of proof is on whatever side supports a notion that has yet to find scientific support.

There are probably some sort of powers we don't quite understand,

My ex for example is very empathetic and can sense emotions, including the residual emotions left behind in a building and stuff and honestly it causes him more issues then is useful. If the emotions in a building get to strong he has to excuse himself and go outside. If there are really bad ones left behind at a place he gets uncomfortable and wants to leave as soon as possible. He actually meditates to keep this from getting the better of him.

That said, any who claim to do this kinda stuff on demand are frauds.

And as you are entitled to your opinion, so are they Sis. True, the practice of deceiving people for gain is disgusting, what people believe themselves to be or know who they are, is what they believe or know.

The Human mind is an Enigma not even the smartest Human could comprehend, so the level of Human Capabilities are thus unknown.

Just like coming to terms with your sexuality, so does that of a person with hightened Sensitivity (not "powers"), who is confused, scared, seeking acceptance and only wants to be happy.

You tell your mom you're gay and she tells you no you aren't, well wouldn't that not be similar to this situation? As you know what you are and believe what you know, so how can someone tell you, you aren't gay, when you know and feel you are?

True, flying and telekensis is very much out there, how can you know it's not possible? As a believer in science, the limitations to both the capabilities of humans and their innovations are limitless, so where has science proved to us that Psychics,Mediums and the like, are not real? Or cannot exist?

To live with a viel over the eyes, is to live a life blinded and clouded to the possibilities that can be, are, and have been. - Me <3 Smile

Generally speaking, professional psychics are fake. And thing is, that's what most people who go to them want. I used to be friends with a pro psychic (who was helping me become a phone psychic until I realized how nasty the biz is) didn't get repeat customers when she gave real readings, but after she started learning what they wanted to hear and selling it to them they came back for more. And being right has nothing to do with it because she would keep telling them how love, wealth, or whatever was nearby and they'd come back no matter how bad it kept turning out. She said she realized she was being paid to keep the hopes of these people alive. She even did a little good because she got a guy to leave a street gang by "foreseeing" how he'd be paralyzed and confined to a wheelchair and a couple of women to leave very abusive spouses, and thing was they wouldn't listen to family & friends but they would listen to a psychic faking them out...

Thing is now she only gives real readings for free (and she's pretty good), but all the ones she sells are fake, entertainment purposes only. Real readings also tire her while fake readings don't.

I've only known one pro psychic who seemed to be honest, and she's simply not the psychic she claims to be (I should know, she tried using her "gift" on me, and since I know about cold reading professionals use, which I learned back when I was learning to be a phone psychic, she didn't pick up on those cues).

My speculation is that if someone is strong enough a psychic to make a living at it then it's probably a harsh, dirty job they'd hate and/or a very dangerous one as there are people in this world who wouldn't hesitate to enslave or kill them...even if they're so psychic as to evade the bad guys it would be a dampener on having any friends and I doubt they could protect family.

And finally, James Randi...he ain't giving away his prize unless a real life Carrie chased him with telekinetically handled knives. He's a fraud himself. As one example he once "exposed" how some fairy photos were fake, but it was a hoax (that is, it wasn't that he was merely wrong, it was he doctored photographs and stuff as a willful lie), and while it's true the photos WERE a hoax, they were done differently from how James Randi claimed.
