You really are an absolute asshole aren't you.

It is not a debate when you try to force your view and resort to insults to try and win.

Yes irony, I called you an asshole, because that is how you are behaving,

Believe what ever you like, it's the internet, I couldn't careless.

Now you're fighting me. Don't fight. Discuss. Thank you for the insult though. I will wear it proudly.

I'm still willing to hear your answer to my last response because I'm not getting butt-hurt about this.

Thats not the point I was making.

The point was compared to the British population, who populates the British Isles by 90%, the 6% population of Muslims account for 40% of the prison population.

And of course I was not stating a whole race...because Muslim isn't a race of course. Wink

so you're going to resort to name calling because people disagree with you ?

Why these kinds of debates always stray and turn into personal fights?
Because there is no way one group will convince the other one. Because of different life experiences. We have a large community of Vietnamese people. Nobody has problem with that. But we do have problems with the Gypsies. Because of the high crime rate.
Ideals are great. But they are just that. Ideals. I can understand why the guys don't see the inviting trend as a good thing.

Hi everybody

I can't help but to give my 2 cents on this post as a practicing Muslim from an Islamic Country.

First and fore most, thousands of appreciation to some of the GS community who backed up Muslims despite not being one,you guys restored my faith in humanity, especially in gay community.

Secondly, with honor to the original question by OP,my thought is,it really shouldn't be an issue. Despite my country being Islamic, almost half of the populations aren't Muslim, and they are allowed to practice their belief here in freedom. I don't know if they ever broadcast their practice on network TV like we always do,but it proves the point that, even if they did broadcast it,people of other religions don't give as much attention. We don't want to watch other religion practice cause of various personal reasons, mostly cultures, but we have the option to,and so do you. Don't watch if you don't want to,and children or elders also have this option,so they won't watch if they don't want to. Period.

Just to give some exposure, the coming holy month of fasting (Ramadhan) is one of the most awaited time of the year for Muslims. Having the broadcast of prayer on a network TV puts us in an environment that cherish the month. Especially if the prayer is being broadcast from our holy city,Mecca,it's a huge deal,as not all of us can afford to be there especially in the holy month.

As for other strayed discussion from the topic, such as Muslims occupy 40% of prisoners population (to which I still haven't seen a valid source be posted),what happened in Middle East, and so on,I'm not so comfortable to discuss about it,but I'll say something anyway.

Islam is a peaceful religion, heck,it is one of the Abrahamic Religions, which mean it relates to Christianity and Judaism as well. I believe that no religion actually encourages its believers to do violence,it's people own nature that does so. And also, since Islam is always growing over time, there are people who might have deviated from the original teachings, which is why there're killings between Muslims in Syria lately. Again,it's people's fault, they are the one who deviated, not the religion. Also, not all Muslims practice the teachings, which is why crimes are being committed. Also,we don't force Islamic laws in non-muslim country, heck, even my country doesn't enforce all of Islamic laws, and we're still fighting for it. Mind you,Islamic laws don't even apply on non-muslim,they are only applied on Muslims,so why the scare? This is what we're trying to educate people in my country, which is why the law should never be enforced till people understand them. As for laws on gays in Islamic country, they are culturally basis,it isn't clearly stated in Islam about it,so since the rulers are homophobic or can't understand it,they make those rules.

To wrap it all,I believe that people just need to be educated in order to understand each other. Just like how we as LGBTQIA wish for straights to be educated on our issues,Muslims also wish for that,so that the Islamophobia wave could ends.

Honestly,as a gay muslim,it is so hard for us,we're not accepted in our own Islamic country for our sexuality, and we have to face Islamophobia attacks in non-Islamic-gay-friendly country,I just hope I don't have to choose between the two. (╯︵╰,)

I think the bottom line is that there is nothing wrong with broadcasting prayers at 4am on a Tv station.

Even if it does seem portrayed that there are many muslim extremist terrorists, how is it any way justifiable to have a prejudice against muslims in general.

Many religions have been arbitrarily linked to violence.

Besides, you are not forcing views down people's throats just by broadcasting prayers.

My school holds a Christian prayer every morning, nobody complains about that just because there is a Christian minority somewhere in the world doing awful things.

I remember a few months ago, a NZ first MP said that anyone who 'looks like a muslim' should be banned from flights. What does 'muslim' look like? it's not an ethnicity. This is what I hate most about Islamophobia, people assume all muslims are the same thing, a crazy middle eastern extremist.
That's not even halfway true, most Muslims live in Asia, in China, Indonesia, Pakistan and those countries.

It all comes from this awful preconception that people have of what is right and wrong.

I am so sick of people thinking their own beliefs apply to everything. No it doesn't it applies to only your own immediate society and culture.

When you say "bizarre religion" why do you think that? It's because you don't think it's 'normal'. And by that, you mean 'familiar to you'. It's ridiculous to call other cultures 'bizarre' because they're just plain not.

Krupt Wrote:Muslims seem to have a total lack of respect for life, or at the very least all of those that are not like them. They will never fit into our societies and cultures because our society and cultures are built on love, trust, respect and acceptance.

How can we 'accept' a new breed of people who do not accept us? Whose heart desire for nothing more than those that are not islamist deserve to die.

Mamza, how does it feel to worship a beautiful and peaceful icon that wants you dead because you are gay?

First of all,the teaching of Islam is built on love, trust, respect and acceptance, despite the current world phenomenon. The people who don't respect all that, they're more culturally motivated than religiously motivated. I admit that some of our teachings could be bizarre or extreme in the eyes of the world, but it's faith that keep us,and we don't even force non-believers to abide it.

I condemn all terrorist attack by Muslims, but again, these are still a small proportion of us,and we can't even guarantee if they are even a practicing followers. For all that we know, they are nuts to have those ideologies that motivate them into terrorism.

I'm not asking you to accept all of Muslims, especially not the one committing terrorism, but at least spare a part of your heart to those who aren't,knowing that they're being clouded in the eyes of media by the Muslim terrorist. Don't cloud your judgement by these terrorist, try to find some peaceful Muslims and you'll understand us better.

There's a misconception there. It's not the religion that wants me dead for being gay,it's the people, the man-made laws, the cultures. Islam doesn't condemn you for being gay,and there's not a single valid verse stating that gays should be punished by death, all the verses that stated so aren't even valid according to renown Muslim scholars, but yet people chose to believe it and enforced laws upon it. What Islam condemns is actually the act of gay,but this is proven to be not so true anymore by recent scholars who are gay-friendly,and since Islam is always growing and changes by time, maybe in the future there will be some Islamic ruling allowing homosexuality act or even marriage,it's a whole new big loop hole there, and that's as far as I'm gonna discuss about it.

Unfortunately,Islamophobia is very real, and I'm sure you're aware of it. I recently came across an Islamophobic group in fb,where they tried to encourage people not to eat Halal foods and more. I don't understand,Halal foods aren't poison, they are merely meat slaughtered by Muslims with a few citings. Also, seafood and vegetables, untouched by Muslims are also Halal, and how do you suppose these Islamophobic people relate to it? No idea,I stopped reading. Yeah, there are those who are phobia towards other ideals that don't fit,and by 'don't fit',it doesn't represent 'don't fit Islam',it represents 'don't fit their cultures and understandings'. It's more of a culture thing when it comes to this matter, and perhaps it's a vast majority of our cultures, but in the future,I hope that Muslims aren't clouded by cultures and join the world.

Thank you for sharing that with us. I wasn't sure if we did have any Muslims on this site, and I'm glad we do. You'll have a rough time of things anywhere you go these days, but there are people out there who have your back. I may not be Muslim, but I respect you for staying true to your beliefs when the world screams at you to change who you are.

Hmm somebody screams at mamza to change? All we don't like are the fanatics and yes, there are a lot of them among Muslims.
Malaysia has been multireligional for centuries. That's different.

Sure. Some people understand that it's just the fault of a few fanatics, but there are plenty of people who blame the entire religion. Some of those people are in this very thread. Mamza doesn't need anymore of that bigotry, since he's probably had plenty of it already.
