ch4 broadcast daily Muslim prayer!
Are you worried about the confessional, communitarian aspect of this programme? Prayer is generally considered as a positive, useful thing, by those who believe in it. Is there a fear that CH4 is catering too much to religion(s) when it's been perceived as more secular orientated? Probably, Ch4 saw that multiculturalism would be better served by adding this programme? What you can do is write to the channel about your concerns.

the UK isn't a "gay" country either . the majority of people here are straight (or at least in heterosexual relationships) , so let's get all the gay related programming off the TV . because catering to a minority that isn't part of the "normal" culture of a country is disgusting and wrong . ew .

Er... how did you come to that number? The USA: some 350 million... The world: about 7 billion. Those figures don't compute. (Not that it invalidates what you were trying to prove, but...)

Apparently, Jesus would have said (this needs verifying, of course) that people shouldn't make public of their prayers, which is why Christians praying outside a public building of a secular nature, to "influence" the outcome of parliamentary discussions for example, goes against Christ's teachings. Maybe Partisan has a point that all prayer should be private and not made public, whatever the religion. That's why I understand why France is trying to keep things secular. That's why Turks are worried about their country losing its secular status for public affairs and government. That's why Egypt is in turmoil at the moment.
Keeping religions out of public affairs is the best thing we can do to live together, bonded by common laws and the high ideals of Human Rights.
On BBC Radio Four where they don't discard religion, the Prayer For The Day programme is hosted by various religious leaders, all in their turn. There are Jewish rabbis, Christian priests and vicars, but also Muslim leaders too. All of their messages are generally about peace and being able to live together, spiritually guided for a better world. I don't remember hearing a Bhuddist yet, but they are probably on the programme too. The programme lasts two minutes and is a pause for thought.

And yet, Channel 4 has long been a medium for diversity. All the films and programmes I've ever seen coming from that channel have opened our minds to new and different things. That choice can't have been made without ample discussion, you know?
Oh, and by the way, I think the saying goes: keep your friends close and keep your enemies even closer. Basically the better you know your enemy, the more prepared you are not to fall from a surprise attack. Of course a lot of religion likes to sugarcoat some of its messages while it vitriolises others.

Of course we shouldn't tolerate radically violent muslims any more than we should tolerate any other groups with similar behaviour. I encourage anyone who sincerely believes muslims are behind all, or even most acts of terror to do their research before entering debates with offensively incorrect statistics. There's nothing wrong with broadcasting a prayer and it does NOT signify a secret islamic plan to invade western culture. Oh, and citing individual cases of islamic violence is not the same as proving the aforementioned statement that all terrorisms are muslims.

I think what is worrying to a Western mind is the fact that while we are letting Muslim voices be heard on account of pluralism, which is part of our thinking and our political makeup, we realise that non pluralistic countries are not letting other religious faiths have their voices heard in those countries on an equal footing. So there's a fear of the spread of the "wrong" kind of thinking, which would not be pluralistic and leave the religion to the individual to choose. Much as the Christian faith tried (and succeeded) to proselytise during the periods of colonisation, the Muslim faith has an injunction to do the same. This was tried historically already during the Middle Ages in Europe. At the time, Arabic culture was one of the most developed in sciences and literature etc... Now, the messages it's trying to spread hark to times when things were more obscure and the West does not really want to go back there, having moved on. There is power in numbers. It's scary.

Showing strong, passionate and usually unfair support for one particular idea; as, blinded by partisan zeal.

A member of a armed group formed to fight secretly against an occupying force.

In any case, woah, things did really get out of hand. To make things perfectly clear, I never accused you of denouncing ALL muslims. However, banning their prayers from broadcast would get consequences for all of them - in other words normal, peaceful muslims would be targeted because of the actions of more extreme individuals.

In any case, sorry if I came off as too harsh. I think it's partially because a lot of important people in my life coincidentally have been muslims and I've seen with my own eyes how the masses view them. My best friend's muslim family never really adapted, like you complained about though. They'll never be integrated parts of Sweden and their only friends are back home where they came from. It's probably not very easy to just become a part of a new society after leaving everything behind to escape genocide and find refuge in a very different place. But they work hard, pay their taxes, vote, treat people nicely and just live friendly but somewhat secluded lives - who cares if they haven't absorbed Swedish traditions and customs?

Do you know how many Islamic channels are broadcast free to air in the UK?

We have 5 mainstream channels, and Islamic channels out number that.

So tell me, why do they need to use the mainstream channels for prayer?
