How do you defy stereotypes?
#21
I understand lesbians are supposed to be into video games (and even James Bond movies?)...I'm not (and I tried to be), at all (though I do like tabletop role playing games and LARPs), not unless you count when I played Ms. Pacman all the time at a laundromat while washing clothes...

Maybe I should learn from the best and hone my toe tapping skills in public restrooms.

I've never been one to place myself in a box when it comes to stereotypes or cliches. Generally, I pay no attention to them at all..but for the sake of this thread: My sense of style is much different, I would think, than what you would expect from the stereotypical "gay person". I pretty much wear a lot of black (so gawth), and shy away from bright colors. I can't cook worth crap. I don't own an iron. Uh... I'm a bit of a gamer and computer nerd. I loathe drama and refuse to participate in it, in almost all cases. I don't say "thilly gooth" while flicking my wrist?

I dont' know.. I'm running out of stereotypes lol.

Really though, just be who you are. Forget stereotypes.

I think I won't be allowed to post here since I started Singing Defying Gravity (a song from a musical) right after I saw the Thread Title ._.

if you actively try to defy stereotypes then it doesn't really mean anything... It makes it as meaningless as the stereotype itself.

Things that make me, me don't make me against a stereotype, they're just things that are there. I'm a conservative, I hate clothes and fashion, I don't like things that are too loud, but if they defy stereotypes, that takes away all their meaning. It makes it into its own stereotype, doesn't it?

Well I'm a stoner gamer fag who likes to drink beer with his dears. I'm slightly camp but I can beat most people up cos it's just the way things are these days (martial arts stuff has helpd)

Umm yeah but other than that I enjoy rainbows and skipping down the street. n.n

i am absolutely obsessed with my hair, i am very choosey when it comes to clothes i like girly tv shows like desperate housewives and all that and me and some friends talk about guys a lot of the time and i always wear cute underwear haha i am constantly clean and put things into symmetry all the time (i have mild OCD they think)

but i go camping a lot where i dont care for my hair and i get constantly dirty and i absolute love it and i just wear whatever i want on camp and don't care.

I don't aspire to be a hairdresser i am going to study pharmacology and immunology at university next year and i will work in labs or something and i find religion quit interesting even though i have no strong belief either way

despite me being all of these things and acting very gay sometimes i still constantly get hit on by girls and asked out. and no gay guy believes i am gay when i tell the it always takes some convincing

so i suppose in times like this i think the stereotypes are fading away and i make jokes out of them with friends and just have a laugh about it. if that answers your question at all?!

Ways I'm not a stereotype? Um... I like horror movies (hate romantic comedies), listen to punk music, don't mind getting a bit messy. That's maybe it.

I like arthouse movies, listen to a lot of female singers and musicians (although rougher-edged ones, like Courtney Love), and I hate sports. I like going shopping for antiques. I suppose all of those things are somewhat stereotypes, but I don't really care. I don't purposely defy stereotypes just for the sake of defying them; I like what I like and am interested in what I'm interested in.

I have my masculine qualities and my feminine ones, and I kind of like the balance. That said, I don't think it's terribly obvious that I'm gay, at least unless you get to know me well. I have women flirt with me and hit on me rather frequently (if only all that attention was coming from men!)
