I just recently moved to Oklahoma, and I wasn't sure what to expect in people's attitudes out here. So far, it's been mostly apathetic or positive. I initially picked up work at Domino's for some small income while looking for a better job, and they hired a gay guy shortly after me. He was a bit feminine...not super flamboyant or anything, but he was open about it and nobody gave him shit for it. In fact, there was 1 time it was used in a positive way in an argument...
"Dude, he's gay, not a pussy" (In reference to questioning if the gay guy was a vegetarian)
I thought that was funny as hell. Not that I have anything against vegetarians.
Anyway, I work at Chili's now, and there seems to be a few openly gay employees as well. So I dunno. I also go to my mom's church, and the pastor hasn't openly spoken about the issue, but I've talked to him in private and mentioned it, and he's used his sermons to publically apologize to anyone who's ever been hurt by religious folk, especially other pastors - anyone using religion to minimalize or harm others, because they honestly should know better. - So it seems like I'm in a pretty calm area.
