H.O.P.E (homosexuals opposed to pride extremism)

If we ever lost that right, it will be a breakdown on society or democracy on all levels…

Well i dont like to prevent fun but to me its not fun.

Ok. It surprizes me since you adopted the gay marriage 6 months ago, and not in all the UK.
It's not fun to you but admit that it might be fun for others.

I don't know how it is in UK, but I love prides in Paris (the only ones I know actually...). As I said before, not only because of that "fun" (usually I hate crowded places) but because each minority is represented. It's just awesome.

I looked up HOPE, found it a bunch of trash and not surprised the fundies love him (while still considering gays a bunch of depraved sinners as a whole). An example of how unjustifiable it is and why this isn't against "extremism" but against equality:

Quote:But today, the bedrooms of the nation are in everybody’s faces. Today, it’s all about benefits, privileges, social engineering, nihilism and redefining normalcy.

Nihilism? Absolutely not, if that were the case then it would be against all marriage. Normalcy? Where? And benefits and privileges? That's equality so that say a partner can't be barred from a hospital (including the death bed), for example.

Quote:How can I sit still when my freedoms are being threatened and the traditions and institutions of my country are being compromised?

What freedoms are being threatened? And what traditions and institutions are being compromised, the traditions that not all people are created equal under the law and that the homophobic churches can't forbid all religions (including their own since not all Christians are the same) from acting just as bigoted? If that bothers you then look to interracial marriage, that was the slippery slope that has led to this.

Quote:So I formed HOPE (Homosexuals Opposed to Pride Extremism) to give a voice to gays and lesbians who choose to live with dignity and discretion, who don’t wake up every day looking for discrimination under the bed, and who don’t go running to the governments, the courts or the human rights commissions for a lifetime of therapeutic preferences.

Both a strawman and ad hominem while simultaneously self-hating. Especially when mixed with things like this:

Quote:And I’m sick and tired of the sentimental, feel-good, liberal propaganda that conceals and denies the blatant Roman Empire decadence and compulsive, tunnel- vision promiscuity of so many gay men’s lives.

You really admire this trash? That's sad.

Btw, this guy gets much worse and delivers outright lies and BS from radical Christian Right groups that demonize us which you can see here:

Some of it yes ( totally the last paragraph) and what some others have said on this thread. Sorry if you find that sad.

And people have fun during prides...why should one prevent them this pleasure?

I never said I want to prevent pride parades. I merely pointed out that I personally don't feel like they serve any real purpose in my native country and I don't attend them. I won't dictate what other people can or cannot do as long as they're not harming anyone.

megumidesu Wrote:i think part of the issue is that it makes people think that all gays are like the crazy in-your-face flamboyant pvc clad crazy people who dominate pride , which leads to homophobia from people in all kinds of ways.

Then those responsible should be held accountable...and the straights who do the same thing at their parades and spring breaks and the like need to be held equally accountable, as opposed to ignoring straight men acting that way while focusing on the gay men who act the same and claiming this is what most (or even all) of them are doing as gay men are inherently screwed in the head who need Jesus to make them all straight and moral (at best).

Of course the most outrageous parts are what makes the news. Many think "furries" are a sexually deviant club (and the idea gets promoted on shows like CSI) but that subculture is a tiny minority (like maybe 5%, at least openly) and after the news showed the most scandalous then it drew actual crazy people so that the real furries made their own conventions while the ones with the freaks withered and died because not enough people were showing up to make it worth the money to host. That's what the news does, it titillates and scandalizes (and terrorizes and outrages) so it can sell advertisement space, and people love to feel better about their own minor vices and indiscretions by seeing the "freaks" to shake their heads at.

In the case of Partis I'm sure he found the video (maybe even had it sent to him) by some antigay group (anti-gay groups can be led by gays, btw). They're even more prone to focus on the worst and then try to make it look like the totality. Meanwhile, here's what's not being shown:

Of course you won't find much of that being promoted as it doesn't serve an anti-gay agenda, doesn't make people feel morally superior by being outraged, and is frankly boring. (Mardi Gras and the like is the same way, they're not all freaks though they're present as well and draw a crowd--and the cams.)

It's nice that no matter how much time I take off from this place I can always come back and find either a queen or pride bashing thread.

Really, that's what you are reading?

How about broadening what you see and read as I think most of the discussion here has been responsible opinion and thoughts.

I can't see much name calling or abusing or even 'i'm right and you're wrong' in this discussion.

No pix im not affiliated with any groups..In fact the video itself was not anti gay in the least, it was mushy with music and all and its intent was to "move" you, i didnt set out to not like it in any way.

Personally, I see nothing wrong with pride events. The ones that I've been to, at least, aren't anything like what most media sources make them out to be. I still don't like going to them much, but that's because I have social anxiety issues that make me uncomfortable at large events. I don't see why my own preferences should keep others from enjoying pride events though.

The guy and organization you admire so much supports gay conversion therapy. He is a homophobe himself.

This is his friend and colleague "in the trenches"...Reverend Tom Campbell...how can you support this guy and this trash? It makes me sick to my stomach to hear a gay person hold this up as something worthwhile...

He became prominent in the Toronto area in the 1970s as a crusader against homosexuals and abortion rights, founding "Renaissance Canada" in 1974 to promote his views, particularly in education.[1] He held frequent rallies against gay rights and regularly took out full page ads in newspapers, campaigning against the "homosexual agenda" and "secular humanism".
