Computer/Internet problem
#1
The computer I use is a Toshiba satellite from around 2009 approximately and runs on windows 7(64 bit I believe)
The Problem I'm having started this morning (as far as I know) and what will happen is I open up internet explorer, the connection will be fine but after a few minutes it just disconnect and reconnect or say that no connections are available (sometimes it will reconnect after this). I already tried unplugging and plugging the router back in and it hasn't done anything to solve this, and sometimes this will also happen when loading a new page. So any advice or help you can give will be vary appreciated. Also I use a wireless connection called ARRIS-4971, again any help will be appreciated.

Have you tried other browsers? I usually use chrome, and sometimes I will use Internet explorer when Google chrome decides to pretend I don't have internet. This is very rare though.

Carefully check all of your routers and every single plug. Sometimes a plug comes loose but the router still registered but won't work. Ensure that it is reset.

Make sure that the company that provides your net work just isn't down. I use Shaw - and perhaps once every few months their net work goes down for several hours.

Also make sure that your router is not set to open and is locked, and make sure your laptop is capable of connecting to the internet (I personally would check simply by connecting to an open network and seeing if it works, there are several where I live). If it can't connect to any network the problem is the laptop.

I stopped using chrome for a few months now because it want's to act slow and choppy, especially when watching video's, so I don't think that will help.

Do other browser's work though? Sometimes an individual browser may act up for awhile, but others work fine.

I use firefox been doing so since it came out, every so often I have to reset it.

There have been three times where I have completed uninstalled Firefox, cleaned my registry, threw out the remaining files left behind (folders) and did a fresh start with the newest version. I doubt one can do that with explorer, but perhaps you can do that with chrome?

Slowing computers are often de to too much left behind junk.

I use the free version of this product: http://www.piriform.com/ccleaner to clean the computer, wipe the empty space and to clean out the registry.

With windows 7 you need to clean out the prefetch every 3-6 months, depending on how many things you do with computer.

Updates from windows, virus scans, everything tends to leave behind data packets which are just using up space and in some cases can slow computer down.

Add-ons on browsers like toolbars can really destroy your browsers abilities.

If your browser looks like this:

Then you either install way hella too many 'free programs' or you have a tool bar fetish which will kill your computer.

Removing tool bars, uninstalling them and reading very very carefully what is being installed with X program will go along way at keeping your browser running fast.

Pale moon works for me , as for your router try resetting it instead of rebooting it.
There should be a small inverted button you can get to with a pen tip ,hold it in or 10 seconds .
It will clear the memory cache from your router.

Other than that if you are not sure about your gateway or ip address, do the following.
Select windows button and type CMD in your search bar.
A small dos box will pop up in it type ipconfig (enter)
this will show you your default gateway number .

open a new window and in the navigation bar type in that number and enter.
A small box will pop up ,type admin in both fields.

This will take you to your modem settings
select basic setup from the menu on the left and renter your isp user name and password and press enter, this will reboot the modem for you and all should be back to normal.

I hope this helps you.

No!

You problem to me sounds like the wireless on your laptop or the external router.
Try to connect from a friend's house. If it happens there you'll know for sure it is the wireless on the laptop.

In that case, uninstall and re-install the wireless drivers. If it works in your friend's place get him to try his laptop in yours. If he cannot connect then the problem is with the router.

Outside chance you might have a virus but unlikely.

Leave your settings alone. The very fact that you can connect at all means that your settings are correct. But the first thing you do before all of this is to try another browser as your normal one may be down temporarily.

Win 7 has a back up feature like win xp, you can go back to a date when everything worked and it resets to that date without loosing anything you put in after that date, I would try that, Jim
