If you have a clean background, a clean health record, and can afford it, you may be able to adopt or foster a kid of your own.
Seeing as you are going (or are) into law enforcement, this makes you a "prime" candidate for it.
Do some research about what you need to do, what you need to have in order, and how much money you will need in order to adopt or foster.
There is also Big Brother and Big Sisters, where you can sign up to be a big brother to a kid who has no male role models.
But you need to get your head on (pardon the saying) straight, before you get into anything like this.
And who knows, you might find a nice man who already has kids.
Sit down a couple hours a week and do some research on this subject. Sometimes adoption can take years to process. But again, I suggest you get yourself straightened out before you commit to anything like this. But it doesnt hurt to get all the research you can get in the mean time.
There are tons of adoption alternatives also. When you have gotten all the info you think you can get, go talk to a few adoption counselors. See what can be worked out.
There are millions of kids out there who need somebody to take care of them. And there are millions of ways to get one of these kids.........you just have to do your homework on it.
