The little things
#11
My first and so far only boyfriend once gave me a rock he found on a trip to Israel. It was shaped like an "N" which is the first letter in my name. So he brought it home and gave it to me on Christmas Smile I still have it, even though we're no longer together.

When I first started to see my last 'ex', I mentioned I had smelled a sample of Beckham's "Signature" cologne in a magazine, and liked it. On our next date, he showed up with a bottle of "Signature" for me.

I call stuff like that 'showing my love'. I'm not very fond of saying 'I love you' but I am one who will do little stuff to show my love. For instance when I packed lunches for my ex I would get out the sharpies and decorate the hard-boiled eggs to brighten his day.

Resentments are usually the killer of relationships. And its not the big shit that ultimately breaks them, its the little things - the minor insults heaped upon one another until the day that final straw hits the camels back. Little 'favors' and acts of 'I'm thinking of you' tends to do far much more healing of resentments than a big thing.

swalter Wrote:Earlier today, something happened that made me see, maybe for the first time, that love in a long-term, committed relationship is all about the little things.

I woke up after a good night's sleep and was parched, as I normally am after a stretch of solid rest. On my way to the kitchen, I had a vague recollection of the night before - of finishing the last of my favorite soda (Coke). I was halfway to accepting that I'd have to quench my ravenous thirst with some other, second-class beverage when I opened the fridge and saw there a brand new 2-litre of my beloved pop. As it happened, Darin noticed that I drank the last of my soda the night before, and went to the store before work just so I'd have it when I woke up. I wasn't something I had asked for, or expected, but he knows I like it and he wanted to make sure I had it when I got up.

A bottle of soda. Such a simple, innocuous thing. But a gesture on his part that means more to me than my words can describe. It's these little things - selfless acts of love - that make a loving, committed relationship the unique, wonderfully gratifying enterprise that is (or can be).

If you're in a relationship, I hope it's filled with amazing little moments. If you're single, and looking to be in a relationship, keep in mind that it's these little things that often mean the most. You don't need to break your neck, or your bank to keep things interesting. It's the little things.

I'd have to agree with you, my dear, so now for a word of warning... Coke to quench your thirst doesn't sound terribly healthy... so much sugar ingested right at the beginning of the day... You should, ideally, find more refreshment in a glass of water or a cup of tea, maybe, but then, you'll do it your way anyway, won't you? Quit meddling, PA! Confusedmiley-eating-icecr

Oh I know. Ice-cold, original Coca-Cola is one of my few guilty pleasures Tongue Could be worse... Could be crack! Lol

Cute topic.
I'm not a romantic person, but I'm careful, so I'm in the middle, I try to do this kind of things to friends and others but at the same time I find it a little shallow... LOL ...
But I would be very happy to do it for someone I love...

Thank you for sharing this with us. I'm romantic type and I always appreciate those cute little things that make us smile and realize that love is not overrated.
