I'm going to think outside the box, and say "go for it". You love him, he loves you and is the one person who accepts you as you are and has stuck by you 100% through thick and thin. How often are you going to find that in your life?

What's the worst thing that can happen? If it doesn't work out you can always go back to just being friends again, with a little more intimate knowledge about each other than you have now. No biggie.

Yes but if he's not into it.....he'd be giving his friend a half-hearted "gift" How fair does that sound? Also you say no biggie if it doesn't work out. It does have the potential to be big alright. I know first hand.
