LGBT as a Marketing Tool

Recognition is a great thing. Exploitation is not.

You still retain the right to use your judgment in purchasing decisions.

Sadly tho, we all know it will not be tasteful. Historical there is far too much gay stereotypical humour to think tastefulness will be at the forefront.

Exactly what is the LGBT demographic?

women who have sex with women, men who have sex with men, people who have sex with as many genders as they can, people who change their genders, short, fat, tall, white, black, asian, polynesian, multi-racial, catholic, protestant, jewish, muslim, buddhist, taoist, shintoist, peaceful, reactionary, revolutionary, capitalist, communist, socialist, athletic, couch potatoes, intellectuals, jocks, blue collar, white collar, professionals, single, married, parents, alcoholics, abstainers, drug users, kinky, vanilla, poor, middle class, wealthy, talented, resourceful, independent, dull, optimistic, pessimistic, realistic, well grounded, bird brained, funny, serious, liberal, conservative, moderate......................

ummmm....... what was the question again? OH YEAH.... cramming people in nice neat little boxes for mass consumption.

I guess I am just not as upset about this as other people. It's just one more demographic group I belong that is being marketed to, something that has happened to me since the day I was brought into this world. Age, gender, region where I live, interests, ethnicity, health, occupation, family status, all different categories I am a part of that are used as reasons for marketing to me and yet within each of those groups that I belong to there is extreme diversity among the people with me in each of those groups.

Mass consumption, memechose? I prefer consuming them one or two at a time. Neater that way. Allows for savoring the distinctions.

You kinda have to admit though... they slap a rainbow sticker on their product and we come flocking to it like it's the newest slice of bread.

YUP! and I laugh every time I see crap like that. I expect people to like me on the basis of my merits as a human being and I only like other people (and corporations) based on theirs. Jut because a person or corporation wants to stick their nose up my ass and schmooze with me doesn't ever influence me into liking them. If I ever see gay ads for jeeps or chevy deisel trucks I'll have a real crisis on my hands. LOL.
