There used to be a tree that was 5,800 years old - the world's oldest. Poachers have cut it down. Not only was it the oldest tree on earth, it had great religious and cultural significance for the indigenous people of the area.

I know of one tree that's certainly older than the one in the article.

The world's oldest recorded tree is a 9,550 year old spruce in the Dalarna province of Sweden. The spruce tree has shown to be a tenacious survivor that has endured by growing between erect trees and smaller bushes in pace with the dramatic climate changes over time.

And there are groves of aspen trees in Utah & Montana that have asexually reproduced from their roots for over 80,000 years, making them the oldest organism and "tree life" on earth.
