Back when I was a kid we blundered through life blindly, using trial and error to answer the basic questions in life.
My suggestion, young one, is to wing it, try what you THINK will work and rely on your own instincts.

"Hey. I was wondering what you think about becoming exclusive... either now, or in the future?"

In my current relationship, after a few weeks we had a discussion. That was 12 years ago. My one other very long term relationship of 7 years, we just kind of grew into it. We gradually saw less and less of other people as we spent more and more time together until we finally realized, "oh look, we're now exclusive." That is not uncommon in relationships. The point is, there is not one answer and advice without knowing you and without knowing this other person is not easy to give. Sometimes you just have to trust yourself and your feelings. We don't always get these things right, but that is the risk you take when it comes to dating and love.

Gay people have a tough time with relationships. We can't fall pregnant "by accident" and force our partner to make a commitment that way.
