Third world war

TigerLover Wrote:Errr yeah possibly. But Putin has killed all his political rivals and turned the Russian government into a subservient rubber stamp for his policies. It's entirely possible that the oligarchs that support Putin will simply appoint another tyrant in his place.

Quite probably there will be a Russian civil war, after all the nation is burning money faster than a trust fund kid who just won the lottery. And nothing says imminent revolution like crippling poverty. But Russia is never simply going to snap back to democracy.

It's sad but I think that I'll live long enough to see Russia removed from the list of developed nations.

i agree in broad strokes. but Russia is not among the developed nations. look again. it had its last credible chance of catching up with Europe in the 19th century. it was all downhill after that. there's no culture in Russia.

i don't care what Russia does with itself, as long as it keeps itself out of the borders of other independent nations and sovereign states. i don't think its population is enlightened enough for a revolution though. that train has left the station already. it's a dying collapsing state.

(I mean, seriously, that human beings have 'evolved' to the point where they can assure mutual destruction and regard this as necessary and acceptable behavior IS INSANE.) In some ways I'm surprised we've gotten this far without a major conflagration. I'm not totally convinced it won't happen. In fact, with the ever increasing population and demands made on resources, it seems inevitable at some point. But, then again, we're still here despite all the madness that has unfurled thus far. So who really knows? I decided long ago it just wasn't worth "worrying" about because for better or worse I can't do anything directly about it. Sure, I can protest wars (I've been doing it most of my life), I can try and be a peaceful human being myself, I can avoid falling into the trap of believing "MY SIDE" is right and "the other side" is wrong (whether based on economics principals, religion, race, divine right or WTFE). I can live my life as fully as possible not frozen in terror at the prospect of something that might, or might not, happen. But what I cannot do is change other people or directly influence the structures of real power (not politics, FYI). So, IDK, *shrug*. I guess the alternative is just driving yourself crazy with fear and expectation... but that ain't no way to live either.

Well, the world could have been destroyed since 1945 ... And yet, nothing happened. I guess despite my fears and worries; only a mad fool like Hitler would do it cuz no one would want to live through a nuclear holocaust! Since lotta nations have nuclear now so which ever attacks the other, the other would respond back with the same attack and that way both parties will severely lose .... This WWIII is a losing battle for everyone and no one will win this one..

the US isn't threatening the borders of Europe. so, yeah, i don't care about that either. it's the Americans' own business.

Putin is three years younger than I am. I think that you will have to put up with both of us for some time.

Putin's ego based land grabs follow a pattern of Russian history that goes bach centuries: stomp in a and make a mess. It's a tradition. Problem is that he has more toys to muck things up with.

As for the Middle East, I sometimes entertain myself with the idea that the Republicans, instead of building walls on the US southern border, should build a wall around the Middle East and flood it all with oil.

If I lived my life based on the predictions of armegedon made by people on the Internet...PFFT!

Not to sound like I am bragging or anything, but I have survived predicted end-of-the-world scenarios at LEAST 6 or 7 times....

No offense dear, but you know how you are SUCH a different person than you were just 5 or 6 years ago...? Now imagine adding 15 or 20 more years to your current age... Things that seem suddenly pressing just because YOU just found out about them....probably aren't as pressing as you imagine.

If it turns out that YOUR Nostradamus-impression IS correct, I am good with never getting the chance to say, "My bad.".

well, the older he gets the higher the chance, statistically, that something will happen to him and he will be done. whether that is physically, psychologically, politically.

in 10 years he will be 73, and no matter how well he is right now, there's only a small chance he'll still be in charge in Russia in 10 years. so....these are his last moments. he probably realizes this, which is why he is in such a hurry with everything right now.
