I'd suggest having beer, wine, and unsweetened iced tea available. Gives him some options. I'd also have some simple syrup made to add to the tea if he likes sweet tea.

If he brings wine, open that because chances are he likes what he brought. If you're having wine at parties (even a party of 2) I much prefer to serve white because if someone spills it, it's way easier to clean up than red.

Offering wine is not sending any wrong message, it's just basic hospitality. You can even say, "I don't know anything about wine, but the guy at the wine shop recommended this."

I'm more of beer scotch drinker but I watched a guy buy 12 bottles of wine at Trader Joe's a few years back (Christmastime). He zoomed right to a specific brand and loaded a cart full.

Brand is called Red Diamond - Merlot, Sam's Club carried it for awhile but looks like they dropped it. We've bought / drank it over the years and it was decent.

We've had some good Malbec wines (blended wines IIRC) over the years but I can't remember the brands.

The Australian Yellow Tail wines are decent.

I like Red Wines - Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Malbec, etc. though am not a wine connoisseur. Friends of mine like boxed wines. Good buddy saves the bag, blows it up, and uses it as a pillow on long airplane flights...

It went really well I think, he stayed the night and just went home 5 minutes ago. And no its not what you think so get your minds out of the gutter Lol.

He came over with wine and zucchini bread which it my favorite. The wine was a riesling, it seemed ok but I dont know alot about wine. I had gotten some chardonnay I dunno a lady at the store said she liked it, so I went with it. Im really a whiskey drinker. Anyway he said he loved the meal and in my head I was thinking "of course you do its my cooking and its awesome" but I didn't say out out loud
So after dinner we just talked, about everything trees, guns, spitfires and landsknechts all sorts of stuff until about 1 am. I only had a glass of his wine and after that I just kept making myself cups of tea, but he nearly drank both bottles. I thought he had a good personality sober but he is even more fun when he is drunk, too much fun. Well he couldn't drive home so I put him on my couch and took off his shoes then tucked him in with a blanket and went to sleep in my bed.

This morning I got a shower and got dressed and made us a two cups of tea then I woke him up and saw that he wasn't wearing pants, I guess he kicked his jeans off at night, it must be uncomfortable sleeping in jeans? He was wearing skinny cut blue tighties I don't know if it means anything? Anyway he was really embarrassed about getting so drunk and kept apologizing but I told him that I had fun and it was ok. I think he felt a little foolish.

He said he wanted to do something next weekend if I wanted, so I said ok. When he was leaving he gave me a kiss just a little one, it caught me off guard but I didn't hate it. Im just glad he did I would not have had the courage to kiss him first. Overall I think it went really well.

Good. You were a gentleman and he sort of behaved. Next time, make sure you are both kind of sober, so you can really enjoy the experience, if you go any further. After all you'd want to make as good an impression as with your cooking, wouldn't you?
