I didn't mean to make him drunk to get laid, but while both being drunk, he might have better chances of getting an answer from his friend whether he feels something towards his friend or not. People are more honest while being drunk.

This happened to me when I was in school. I fell for my friend's boyfriend, Obviously nothing came of it when I eventually told him, but he was my first love so to speak and it hurt. Especially as I was 16 and got a bit emo about it.
I also wouldn't recommend coming onto him when drunk - I did that with this guy and it just hurt me even more when he wasn't interested.
