I'm pretty sure I must have mentioned her set at the 1970 Isle of Wight Festival. It was probably as close to a real religious experience (not the ones I had to imagine I had when I was a Mormon!) as I have ever been. She began singing in the dark and the sky gradually lightened as dawn broke. It was perfect for her songs.

I'm jealous! I never saw her live...I do have the LP still though...I will be happy to send you a copy if I find another in my travels...

Speaking of religious experiences...My favorite group is The Who and as I mentioned I love Mr Daltrey and The Who received the Kennedy Center Honors a couple years back and Bettye LaVette belted out Love Rain Over Me...I think I had a religious experience as well...blew me away...

OK...not technically 60s-80s...in fact it was just a few years ago...but this was a beautiful tribute to The Who when they received the Kennedy Center Honors...starts with Joss Stone....

...and just in case you like The Who...here is the introduction from Jack Black....of course I had a few tears in my eyes (especially during LaVette) but it is all subjective really....
