Matt > to be honest mate, having been through university before the cuts, it's not all it's cracked up to be unless you do a standardised subject to an exceptional degree (business, computing, a career BA) ... My best friend at work has a 2:1 in Medical Microbiology and scraped a living with me filing documents as any GCSE candidate could do. Go figure.

The thing is im thinking of going into computing/website design and going to uni is needed. Might do a foundation degree in web design at my current college. I dont know... we will see what the future holds.

Anyway, a lib dem MP of a nearby constituency of mine, threatened to resign over the vote of the fee increase, he thought it was a f###ing awful idea. After looking at the people who voted in favour or against, i found out he voted in favor. Wtf!?

I think that the protests are getting way out of hand. I would say that at large amount of people being violent at the protests have no opinion on the fees at all and are doing it because its an excuse to be violent. I think people should have the right to protest but not be thugs and trash the royal's car - its not like they have anything to do with it! Its just going to put a bad press on the whole situation, especially the fact that the riots highly fuelled by the media over exaggerating everything as usual. Rant over mile:

Sometimes I think events like this happen simply because young people want to be part of a noble cause, something so badly in this age of general apathy and consumerism...

there's little left to fight for anymore, socially speaking- nought to dispense all this vigour and aggression on, so when an opportunity arises it becomes inflated to the point of stupidity. This really does them no favours.

My god, Marshlander, what school did you send your son to? I've managed a masters with a "Cadillac Education" as my father puts it, that is the six years for the price of a new Cadillac. But, here, it always depends on the school. He must have gone to a private school and had no other source of funding if his debt is six figures, or is he now a Dr/PhD?

Yes he is and this figure also includes the time he spent at dental school. I don't know how much of his dreadful debt relates to the actual costs of his education. One consolation is that he should now be able to have a reasonable standard of living while he pays it back. I'm relieved the average burden is less for most folks though. I have to admit I played no part in sending him anywhere. Back in the days when he was looking at universities we spent a great couple of days on a road trip looking at Aberystwyth and Liverpool. He was offered a place at Liverpool and then decided he was going to the USA instead.

One thing that I am quite pleased about has come out of this though. So because we're paying more, the goverment are going to pay University fee's for any person who's father/mother has either fought/died in the army...I think it's the latter because if they did it for everyone who has fought they wouldn't be making much money. So yeah it's a really nice thing because it's hard for their families before they died, never mind if they have unfortunately been killed.

I've not heard about this. If true I feel very uneasy about the sort of messages it is sending out. :frown:
