I would say at present he is neither gay or lonely, but curious about guys. I tend to find being gay and outed comes after that point, when you feel more comfortable with these things happening, and accept it into your life.

I'll be honest - it's one of the great points of life when sexual ambiguity is sort of there without any need to box yourself into a category. Those are the times you find out who you really are, and it sounds like you're both kinda doing that together which is sweet
