  Spray-on condom unveiled
Posted by: andy - 11-21-2007, 08:01 PM - Forum: World-News-Forum - Replies (9)

[img2=left]http://www.gayspeak.com/forum/images/news/sprayoncondom.jpg[/img2]A German inventor has invented a spray-on condom.

Jan Vinzenze Krause, director of the Institute for Condom Consultancy said the idea came from the idea that the condom should fit the man, and not the other way round.

Speaking to Spiegel Online he said: "If you go into a drug store to buy condoms, the ones they sell are mainly suited to men with the average penis length of 14.5 centimetres (5.51 inches), but a lot of people have penises that are smaller or larger than that.

"This would represent a revolution in the condom market," he added.

The device works by spraying liquid latex straight on to the penis, which covers it in a matter of seconds.

The spray-on condom will, however, work out as more expensive than conventional ones.

The chamber will cost around £11 to £18 and the liquid latex refills, which produce between 10 and 20 condoms depending on size, will be priced at between £3.50 to £7.

That amounts to around 70p per condom, compared with around 35p per conventional sheath.

Although there are many legal hurdles to overcome and technical niggles to iron out, he is hoping it will eventually be available to buy in shops.

The system works a bit like a car wash. The man put his penis in a chamber and presses a button to start the jets of liquid latex, sucked from a detachable cartridge.

The rubber dries in seconds and is later rolled off and discarded like a conventional condom.

The aim is for the process to take just 10 seconds but at present the latex drying time is around 20 to 25 seconds. "We're working to shorten that time," said Krause.

Gays advised not to shop at Wal-Mart
Posted by: andy - 11-21-2007, 08:00 PM - Forum: Gay-News - Replies (5)

[img2=left]http://www.gayspeak.com/forum/images/news/walmart.jpg[/img2]Wal-Mart, the biggest private employer in the US has been given a "do not buy" rating in a new gay consumer guide.

Human Rights Campaign, the largest gay rights group in America, made its announcement, in time for the festive season, due to the company's refusal to give domestic partner benefits to gay and lesbian workers.

The 2008 Corporate Quality index rated Wal-Mart, along with other retail giants including Toys R Us and Auto Zone, in the red category, advising gays and their supporters to shop elsewhere.

It was a fall of 25 points to 40 from last years guide.

Wal-Mart spokesman David Tovar told USA Today: "We're proud of our diversity initiatives and we think we are taking the right steps."

He would not "speculate" on whether the rating would hurt holiday sales.

It is not the first time Wal-Mart has landed itself in hot water around LGBT issues.

Earlier this year it withdrew its membership of the National Lesbian and Gay Chamber of Commerce citing a new policy not to support "contraversial" issues.

Paul Blank, Campaign Director of WakeUpWalMart.com, an action group protesting about what they see as Wal-Mart's erosion of American worker's rights, said at the time:

"Wal-Mart should be ashamed that it would define its support for the GLBT community as "highly controversial."

"While it ignores its explicit support for right-wing George Bush-style Republicans whose policies have cost America middle class jobs, worsened our health care system, helped poison our environment, and blindly support failed strategies in Iraq."

Last year the Corporate Quality index was downloaded from HRC's website more than a quarter of a million times.

I just saw it this weekend. It was entertaining enough that I don't hate it, yet it was so Hollywood-esque that I have a hard time liking it too.
I wish I could see it in 3-D.

Anyone else seen it?

  Broken Saints

I have to ask if anyone has seen the series Broken Saints.
It is a really strange and unknown DVD. It isn't really an anime or cartoon, but more like a moving comic book, literally. It has a really complex, intriguing story.
It would be great if there is someone here who has seen it (or at least heard of it). If you haven't I definately recommend it. It really makes you think about the world and your life, an enlightening experience.Confusedmile:

BBC soap to get new gay character
Posted by: andy - 11-09-2007, 08:56 PM - Forum: Gay-News - Replies (4)

[img2=left]http://www.gayspeak.com/forum/images/news/eastenderskiss.jpg[/img2]EastEnders, the most-watched programme on the BBC, is to get a new gay character in the New Year.

The gay brother of character Jane Beale will arrive in Albert Square in early 2008.

The soap's executives were inspired to include a gay character after a similar move by ITV's Coronation St proved to be a big hit with viwers.

The Mirror reported: "The bosses at EastEnders have seen how well Antony Cotton does as Sean in Corrie.

"He's become incredibly popular with viewers so they've decided it's time to have a gay character of their own.

"However, he's not going to be as camp as Sean. This guy's going to be very suave and a real charmer."

The long-running soap is no stranger to gay and lesbian storylines.

It was the first in the UK to feature a gay male couple, and last year lead character Sonia Fowler had a lesbian affair.

Brighton teenagers trading sex for a place to stay
Posted by: andy - 11-09-2007, 08:52 PM - Forum: Gay-News - Replies (1)

[img2=left]http://www.gayspeak.com/forum/images/news/homeless.jpg[/img2]Vulnerable young people are trading sex just for a place to sleep, a year-long research study by charity Barnardos has revealed.

The work focused on Sussex, and the vast majority of young people described in the case studies as 'known' or 'suspected' examples of sexual exploitation were aged between 16 and 18 years and were of White British origin.

One quarter was male and the majority of these young men identified as gay.

The sexual exploitation of young men was described as a hidden problem.

"Exchanging sex for somewhere to stay was a frequent form of sexual exploitation; services expressed concern that the true extent of youth homelessness was being hidden by a 'sofa surfing' culture, sometimes involving unspoken sex-for-shelter agreements," the study found.

"In Brighton and Hove, young migrants to the city, attracted by its reputation as 'London by the sea' and the opportunity to experience a vibrant gay culture, were being forced into risky situations because of a lack of affordable and appropriate accommodation."

The researchers said that sexual exploitation is poorly-recognised and there was "varying definitions of sexual exploitation amongst informants."

These ranged from 'child abuse', to straightforward descriptions involving exchanges of sex for money, through to the clear identification of power imbalance and the coercive and manipulative aspects of sexually exploitative situations.

The report also said that young people binge drinking on the streets of Brighton are at increased risk of physical and sexual assault.

"Many young people appeared to be introduced to Class A drugs through their relationships with older boyfriends," the study concluded.

"Substance use can act as a route into sexual exploitation, and evidence emerged of young people being coerced into sex by predatory adults in this way. "

A high proportion of young people at risk of trafficking go missing from the care of social services. These young people can remain undetected and highly vulnerable to exploitation.

"There was concern that the internet was driving the cruising scene underground so that vulnerable young men become harder for services to identify and to reach.

"Young men were regarded as difficult to engage with and reluctant to disclose exploitation, either because of feelings of embarrassment or shame, or from fear of being labelled as gay.

"Young men involved in or at risk of sexual exploitation tended to have a history of sexual abuse, family conflict or domestic violence."

The report recommends intelligence-gathering, closer co-ordination between services and the development of a county-wide approach to safeguarding young people involved in sexual exploitation and trafficking.

It was carried out by researchers from Barnardo's Policy and Research Unit between December 2005 and December 2006.

  The Golden Compass

Even though it's weeks before this flick hits the cinemas, religious know-it-alls are already protesting against it.Apparently it has anti-Christian undertones, there's also a part where a character called God dies and guardian creatures called daemons (pronounced demons).I always have a great laugh when those religion-maniacs get their panties in a bunch over such silly things. As if it wasn't interesting enough the movie also stars screen goddess Nicole Kidman, Daniel Craig *woof* and that cutie pie Freddie Highmore.Movie buffs are predicting that it will be a flop because of the "Kidman effect" but I'm going to prove them wrong. PS : Where will you ever see a talking polar bear?

  Coolest MARVEL Movie
Posted by: Shadow - 11-04-2007, 06:42 PM - Forum: Movies - Replies (14)

Since there have been so many comic-book-to-movie films released over the years, I'm going to restrict this question to just the Marvel ones ... what's your favourite ??

Your options (in case you can't remember them) would include things like (obviously) Spider Man 1, 2 or 3, Elektra, Daredevil, The Punisher, Fantastic Four (1 or Rise of the Silver Surfer), Ghost Rider, and even Blade I, II or Blade Trinity (I believe).

Cheers !!

Hey everybody,

Really sorry the site has been down for the past two days!

The main system hard drive on the server box died on Monday afternoon! :-( I was working away from home at the time too! Cry

I had to get a new hard drive and reload all the server software from scratch and then restore a recent backup I had of the site. Just by shear luck I've managed to get a backup from within minutes of when everything went bang so hopefully none of your posts have been affected!

Please let me know if you've got any problems...

Catch you laters,

Andy xox
