I can't say as your version of normal may be completely different than mine.

Unfortunately when we crush on someone ,we tend to make them larger than life , and add all the attributes and none of the negatives of real life.

We are filling a need, an emptiness an insecurity.
When you were with your ex he may have filled all your needs , you felt content enough not to go searching.

Did I say sexually? :p But I understand, of course a crush has nothing to do with sex from the start. It confuses me in general, as I've not seen her like in 6 years and not even then was close but suddenly when I do see her I feel the same
