Leaving school now, I think the biggest regret I have is not getting more involved with the community earlier.
I regret not having had the courage to actually start up that gay support school group I had planned with a friend. Especially when I had the perfect opportunity in May (the others shot down the idea saying nobody would be brave enough to attend... only like 15(my estimate based on 3 per year level which is my yesr level) openly gay boys in the entire school of like 1500).
When I joined the community youth board I realised that you can't think small when starting up projects. Thats exactly what I did and that opportunity was wasted (we didnt end up doing anything after a bureaucracy battle with Auxkland transport...)
And the fact that there were only three openly gay people, hardly any mention of sexual orientation at health seminars, and only one openly gay teacher in the most prestigious boys' school in all of NZ is exactly the problem I could've helped to solve. EUGH. So much regret. My back-up plan is to keep in contact with my friends in younger year levels (who locate on my gaydar, or even ones who aren't I can nag and tell then itll increase their chances for scholarships and shit) and nag them to start up a support/discussion group and I'll try to help externally.
