Oh boy, the weather was terrible today (snow and freezing rain), however that was really my only annoyance. I had a few surprises at work; first the power went off, but that was alright because of a generator that kept the store at half-power which meant I could still cash people out. Later, I was greeted by a couple of the managers who congratulated me on getting 100% on my mystery shopper (I got a badge, oh yeah!). Then, my supervisor came up to me and asked if I wanted to do Head Cashier training, and I agreed. So I basically got promoted today, kinda out of blue. And now, I'm relaxing before I go out on the town with some co-workers. Can it really be, I enjoy going to work... ? Xyxthumbs

What's the mystery shopper story ? .... or maybe you've already explained...

A mystery shopper is someone who comes in and buys stuff, but keeps track of the performance of whoever serves him/her. So when the mystery shopper came to me, I said all the right things and did everything right.

That's because you're brilliant, Doug... Who sets up the mystery shopper's routine? Someone from management? Or is this a random Fredericton town thing?

I am guessing that Mystery Shopping is world wide... where ever there is a huge corporate presence there are mystery shoppers around.

While in San Francisco I learned about Mystery Shoppers. I signed up with two or three companies.

I was rather shocked at how many places used mystery shoppers... including movie theatre chains... or maybe it was the studio for ticket counts... anyways.

The greatest shops were the restaurants. You were given a certain amount to use for ordering food and then you were usually given a fee for your work. You were given certain details to look for... usually every part of your dining experience, from the greater to the final delivery of the bill was included in your evaluation. Of course, you checked for cleanliness of the restrooms and things like that...

I guess the most boring job was for the US postoffice. Seems that no one wanted those jobs so I would get desperate calls asking me if I wanted a large amount of money to do those jobs...

The busiest was with Starbucks. I would do about 10 - 15 jobs a day starting early in the morn until late in the evening. You were given a stop watch, a scale and a thermometer. They wanted great details about every second of your visit. And then when you left the store you were to take the temp, weight of the product ordered. I am sure they knew when a mystery shopper was in the store as we were told to ask a retarded question. But I paid went with those jobs.

sooooooooooo, XRIMO, were you aware of the customer as a mystery shopper when they were in front of you?

and CONGRATULATIONS on the badge, promotion, and general positive feeling ya have at work.
