How are you today?
I played piano in a concerto competition today for which I've been preparing since September and I didn't even place in the top three. I'm pretty severely disappointed. Practicing for 5 hours a day for half a year... This competition has consumed my every waking thought (and often sleeping ones too).

I didn't embarrass myself though, so that was nice. And the experience was valuable.... but god dammit, it would've been nice to win. What a colossal, anti-climatic let down.

it's good that you took something positive out of it. when I played high school basketball our team sucked, but I loved to play and I had fun, even though we worked our arses off in practice 6 days a week.

Did you find your stride in playing?
Did you find your own tone?

I think I mentioned this before. Thats what is gonna make people notice you.
You can be the best penisist....uh, pianist in the world, but without your own "signature" to what you are playing........you wont stick out enough.

Either that, or dress like Liberace next time!!!!!

Wish I was nearby, I could show you what I mean.

What piece did you play???? Did you pick it, or did they?

People are finicky anyway when it comes to stuff like that. My sister learned the piano, and she was ok. I prefer the harpsichord myself. But I never learned to play.

It was a Kabalevsky concerto. Here's a vid of me practicing with my piano instructor playing the accompaniment beside me:

I put it up here earlier but took it down cause the quality sucks. But fuck it.

I can't get this guy out of my head and its been two years now Hypnotized-smiley . we had classes together and started to get to know each other pretty well. even if he was straight we had so much in common he would have been a good friend. when our classes ended he seemed a little down and said we might not have anymore classes together. I'm not sure if I got nervous because he might like me or scared that I might like him and find out that he's straight but now I realize that he was hinting at exchanging contact info and like the dumb-ass that I am I just said, "oh, we'll see each other around". Facepalm .of course I didn't see him again after that and now I can't get him out of my head. I even thought about looking for him on facebook. just a little something I had to get off my chest.Blahblah

REALLY good piece!!!
You did VERY well too!!!

I will add my two cents here.......hope you dont get upset.....I just want you to be the best you know you can be.......

That is a "fun" piece. You can do so much with it. And playing something like that, even if you havent found your own tone yet, you can have fun with the audience while your playing. Of course you have to know the whole piece by heart, no music sheets.

Gawd, SO hard to explain. Im going to try and find some amateurs on Youtube and send them to you, so you can get an idea of what I mean.

Hope thats ok. If not, tell me to shut the "F" up and I will leave it alone.
